25 years ago today... Gibby takes Eck deep in Game 1. The legend follows. I was a 7 year old kid, standing in the electronics section of KMart in Manistee. Hahaha. The TV in the camper wouldnt work. We were salmon fishing. Walked a little way in the rain, when my Grandfather fell asleep, good times....

:wtf2: Cardboard boxes didn't have electricity back then? I must have been upper class or something because I had tin foil on the attannaes enough to see the pumping fist for a second, then some snow, then the limp then more snow.

When you live in a box behind Sears........ it's the flashbacks that get you through the rainy nights. (Especially when the Tigers fail to give JV ANY run support).

How many times has the lineup failed to score for JV this season?

Not sure, but I do know he had a 2.27 ERA in September, a 0.39 ERA in the playoffs, and the Tigers have only won in TWO of his starts over that stretch. Pathetic support.

If the Tigers lose tonight, the season will end tomorrow. Quit la-la-gaging around get some runs. Hopefully Jackson, Hunter, Fielder and Mandy Jerks have taken a DEEP look into the mirror.

The future is tonite.

I am trying to put myself in Leyland's shoes in the 8th inning Sunday. OK, you ask your stater (Scherzer) if he has another inning left in his arm. He says he is about spent. Does JL say, "Tough shit. You are going back out there!" Does he try and talk Scherzer into one more inning? Or does he go to the pen? The pen worked well the game before...so does he try them again? OR, does he say, "The guys in the pen are inferior and can't be trusted to hold a 4 run lead."????
It is awful easy to blame a manager when the players don't perform as we had hoped. I think Leyland did what he thought was right, but it/they failed. Sadly, JL will have to take the blame heaped on him by the thousands of couch managers as well as those who think they know how to manage because they play fantasy games. I am sure JL would LOVE to go back and replay the end of the game - using the same 20/20 hindsight that his critics get to employ. (And I'd bet those relief pitchers wish the same thing)

There were several fans HERE that said jl should have stayed wit scherzer on this very forum as soon as JL pulled him. So no hindsight there, great foresight though. I wasnt one of them and i actually like JL and think he is a good manager but just like players managers fuck up and this was his fuck up. Btw did scherzer actually say he was spent or were you guessing? I didnt see that, if so that changes things.

Remember when moving Cabrera back to third got laker labeled as crazy? I do. (Suck it iffy) There's a better chance of Peralta being on the roster again next year than Dirks.

Thanks man, glad someone else remembers as well. With the ridiculous attack from iffy over that i dont think ive created a thread since. Ends up i was right, who wouldve guessed?

I haven't confirmed this, but several people have told me Max was seen in the dugout after the sixth telling Leyland he could go "one more". Then Max proceeded to go out in the 7th and throw 96-97 several times, thinking it would be his last inning. Therein may be the reason Leyland went to the pen instead of putting Max back on the hill for the 8th.

Ahh ok, if that is true that changes things, but still even after pulling scherzer ol smokey made some strange moves.

I'm guessing that this "Iffy" person was really obnoxious. It takes a special personality to alienate so many and me able to keep their attention for so long. But, if he was a real Tiger fan, I am sure he is happy that the Tigers still have a path to another WS trip.

Tiger bats HAVE to come alive today. Doug Fister is not as likely to hold the Sox scoreless for a half dozen innings. Detroit has had some success against Peavy in the past...so hopefully the ''big guns'' find the range. It would be great if the Tigers ''made a statement'' and put up several innings with crooked numbers on the score board.

Ohhhhhhhh,...... I remember that thread very well. I wasnt in full support of the idea or anything. But i remember saying crazier things have happened. Same thing happened to cleeves when he brought up Fielder two years ago. Same thing happened to me when I said Kuroda was a better addition for The Yanks than Pinieda. It gets real old when people treat opinions on what might be as a black and white issue. Happened on here yesterday too. But oh well,..... Cabrera, the reigning MVP, Triple Crown winner and three time consecutive batting champion will be manning third again tonight and Prince will be hitting cleanup while Jimmy's boys (Kuroda will be finishing somewhere in the top 10 in the CYA voting) try to see if they can muster some support for Dougie. I hear Iggys back at short btw.

Sorry the Yankees couldn't be there for you this year, you certainly have had their number of late, but but for the love of God and all things good and decent please send these bearded assholes to the golf course.

Please and thank you.

Nothing would please me more but if the top of our order continues swatting at flies, we have no chance. AJ is making Granderson look like a disciplined hitter.

Geez louise. The hatred is starting to spread in Detroit. Some of the comments about Leyland are receiving as much venom as those directed towards politicians of both parties. The buzz word is Hate in this country. No compromise or search for middle ground - just find your target and attack.

I admit, that lineup is not one I would use, but it seems as sensible to me as any other "try something desperate" type of move a person could come up with. It's probably a one-time lineup...something to light a spark. AND, in my opinion, it is better than doing nothing. Now, (LOL) I am sure dozens and dozens of loyal Tiger fans will have a "better" lineup than Leyland's. I won't be surprised either, if JL is personally trashed - along with his batting order.
