How is that a "pussified" rule? It's simple. The player is already on the ground. The second he is contacted by a defender he is down by contact.

It's not like the rule is trying to protect a player.

I think they were right in not calling it dead. There have been enough instances where players upon contact with the ground/rolling around lost control of the ball before being contacted, as well as numerous occasions where the refs blew the plays like that dead incorrectly, giving teams the ball back while they should have lost it.

Not really. If he touches the ball knocking it out before he touches Lacy it's a fumble. It was actually closer than I thought at first. He shouldn't have challenged it though.
