And yet, he was never top 5 in the league like the true greats of Steve Balboni and Gorman Thomas.he hit home runs
300+ in 10349 at bats
also rarely struck out, unlike "Capn Clutch"

An .859 OPS in that World Series definitely could have used some improvement.sometimes numbers are so impressive, they cannot be improved upon
see Brett, George
Sorry, we dont reward George for being a brittle bitch his entire career

Yes, I can't beat the argument that Jeter is clutch so I've joined the argument.boston defending jeter
cant beat em, join em
Doesn't matter, that's higher than his career OPS and therefore it's clutch according to you. However, since Brett's performance was a decrease from his regular season, it's not clutch.jeter reached that twice in his 100 world series appearances

Chipper vs Brett is a good comp. State your case.Chipper>Brett>>>>>Jeter

Derek Jeter was "a little" overrated, but a clutch player, playing his entire career for the Yankees and a positive role model all contribute to the Hall of Famer he is.
Thank you Derek Jeter, the state of Michigan is proud of you!!
Well that's fine too if you're just talking shit. I just like the comp. I think they are both in the top 5 all-time 3rd basemen. And I think the Boggs/Brett/Jones group is a fun debate. I think Schmidt and Mathews are 1 and 2.What if I think they're pretty close and I'm just talking shit?
I'd give Chipper the slight edge. Hit for more power and hit for a better average. Both had more walks than strikeouts in their career(Chipper did have about 500 more of each than Brett).
Kind of a shame that injuries kept Chipper out of the 500 HR and 3000 hits club.

I hope this doesn't happen to Beltre. I think he's a surefire HOFer, but I'm just not sure if he's viewed that way unless he gets these milestones. What if I think they're pretty close and I'm just talking shit?

WOW! Really? Well props to you for being unbiased. Personally I think I would lean towards Brett.Yep
Injuries kept Brett from probably reaching 3500 hits and maybe 700 doubles.
I probably give Larry the edge.
