The first game was postponed due to rain, so the series will start tomorrow.

Correia will pitch for the Buccos, then McDonald and Morton will pitch Wednesday's double-header games.

We actually have a chance to take this series, but we probably won't. :tsk:

Bold, hopeful prediction: Tabata starts a hot streak.

I say we take two of three.

Bold prediction, Pedro continues his hot hitting and raps out two singles and a double in 8 AB's. Unfortunately he will also strike out four more times.

What a magnificent game. The offense might be starting to get it. Also, Correia continues to deal. Shook off a rough start. Good to see Barmes break out in a big way. Tabata, Presley with big games also.

Well, it's been a battle so far, but considering the schedule, I'll take 7-9 at this point.

7-9 is beyond hoping for when you consider how bad the offense has been. It's a miracle. A Christmas miracle.

I was thinking the same thing.
given the gauntlet of starters we have faced, the uncertainty with our corner infielders, burnett and morton on the DL to start, karstens landing on the DL, and correia getting some discomfort and delaying a start, it is a Christmas miracle.

now, after getting some MO from last night, having to turn around for an early DH, having a good staff, we should take 2 today and have a double Christmas miracle of 9-9.

Very nice win for the Bucs last night..... and they did it while keeping in tact their streak of games with less than 5 runs given up or scored. The streak is up to 16 games, which ties the National League record set by the 1965 Pirates. Barring weather problems, we will know by the end of the day whether they break the Major League record of 17.

Actually, I don't care about that streak at all. I'd much rather see the Pirates get some of their hitting mojo back..... and win two BLOWOUTS today!!

Man, J-Mac gave us one heck of an outing.

7 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 BB, 8 K

And I love it when Pedro hits home runs. :) It gives me hope. He put good wood on the ball in his previous at bat, too.

darkstone, you seem to be good with stats, (or any of you guys).
how do we rate with stolen base percentage compared to teh rest of the league.
we never throw anyone out(ok i do remember 1 this year) and we have fast guys that are only at 50%. i thought a good catcher these days gets 25-30%
am i just paranoid or do our guys have talent but limited baseball knowledge and savvy.

on a different soapbox. does it seem to you guys that our pitchers get squeezed and our runners never get the calls. seems like if the ball wins, we are automatically out without looking at whether the tag is made. on the flip side, seems like our batters have mega zones and we have to have throws that substantially (relatively speaking) beat the runner with a clear tag to get the call, anything less is a safe.

i hate old, fat umpires that are cranky and defensive when making a call.

We have a terrible stolen base rate, but part of that was trying to steal so many times of Molina in that Cardinals series. He's throwing out 75% (wow!) of runners this year.

I thought Barmes was out (barely) but Tabata was safe on his attempt to stretch his single into a double. It looked to be the tag either missed completely or was way up high on his hip.

I also have noticed our pitchers getting squeezed sometimes. And a couple of the bigger names we've hit against have had pretty large zones, but for the most part, those have been at least close to fair.

Stolen bases are generally helping the team as long as the success rate is better than about 70%.

Did you guys forget we had a doubleheader? Pedro hit another hr - now has four which is incredible considering his ba. Basically the only thing he does is to hit hrs and strike out. His slg is up above .400 now. Very strange.

Morton had a strong start and jones was a beast. Jones is looking really good so far. Too bad he cant hit lefties.

Well thats nice and all but 'almost' doesnt put runs on the table. Im trying to decide how many homeruns would justify a .200 batting average - assuming he can even get it that high. I figure 40 hrs would be enough. If he could ever get his batting average up to .250 then id be satisfied with 25 hrs.

Read elsewhere that lincoln popped 96 on radar gun today and his pitches had some run. If that lincoln could start and sustain it for 7 innings then wed have another top pitching prospect on our hands. Too bad he did it out of the bullpen.

since neither one of us will ever control pedro, his batting average, the lineup card, managements choices, or his "luck", why do you choose to be negative about a couple neat positives in the day that could lead to more for a player that can be a big piece of he puzzle.
His at the wall out will do more for his confidence, effort, mechanics, and other's faith in him than a single off the end of the bat dribbling down the 3rd base line.
