I hope the trade works out but I reserve the right to at least ask questions.

I am not a Deebo guy but for a fifth, I’m good. I think 17 mil 8s far too much for his production; however, I expect him to do far better with Jayden and the creativity with him will be excellent.

yes you do and they are valid but for a 5th its worth the gamble
Not trying to be a dick and I am going to give AP tons of credit for last year and continue to believe in him. I hope Deebo lights it up. $17 million for 800 yards is a lot. I think you will agree with me that we need lineman on both sides of the ball. We'll see, I'll be happy as hell but if they get 800 total yards I will call it a bad trade. You can get that from OZ and Brown for a lot less.

It isn't just Deebo (I like the guy,) it is Lattimore too. Hopefully he heals in the off season and starts with the team early so he becomes the guy we thought he was.

you can't worry about the cap Commanders have the Number 1 hardest schedule (on paper)this year we have to spend or go 8-9 or worse

I dont think they go into the season with McCaffrey as their primary 3. They probably still want a legit 2 and will use Deebo in that Curtis Samuel role.
No way Luke is WR3. They now need a speedster taking the top off of the defense. This will allow terry and deebo to roam all over, causing complete havoc.
Deebo will be playing all over. Some Wr, some RB, some TE.

The complexity in trading Garrett is tied to his contract's remaining guaranteed money and bonus prorations.
  • Pre-June 1st Trade:
    • If the Browns trade Garrett before June 1st, they would incur a significant dead money charge for the current league year. This charge would be a large amount of the remaining prorated bonus amounts. Reports indicate that this amount would be in the tens of millions of dollars.

    • Specifically, reports indicate numbers around the 32.95 million dollar mark.
  • Post-June 1st Trade:
    • Trading Garrett after June 1st allows the Browns to split the dead money charge over two salary cap years (the current and following year). This can provide some financial relief.

    • This allows the team to spread the dead money hit, and soften the blow to the current years cap.
In other words, if Cleveland wants to trade Garrett, their best move would be to do so after June 1st. Their issue with that is it offers no help this year because such a trade happens after the 2025 NFL draft.
So, unless players are involved, Cleveland gets nothing significant this year and Washington like others who are interested would get the player for 2025 without having to give draft capital until 2026.
The Browns are so fucked with dead money contracts, it really makes no difference what they do.

The player wants out. He’ll get out. That’s just the way pro sports are these days

Stymietee,

RE Deebo as a WR2 or a WR3: I get what you are saying. If the Commanders can address the trenches through FA and the draft, they could still draft a WR or TE who could be more of the traditional route runner who creates separation and makes big plays.

49ers wanted to clear their books. Every NFL team knew it.... they also eat a lot of cap with this trade due to the void years they kept pushing out.

This draft is fairly deep at WR (mid rounds are good). If I was Washington I'd keep Deebo for a year and then dump him via UFA.

The trade itself is an A for the Commanskins, and a B or so for the 9ers. 9ers could've prob. got more but again, you needed a cap space heavy team that is not going to be drafting Travis Hunter (The Patriots). That said, if the Commanskins turn around and give Deebo some massive $25M+ per extension, I'll be grading that an F, real quick.

So you must be upset at the Deboo trade. So what the Rams did to get their Super Bowl doesn't do it for you?
I don't get upset, or bothered by things that I have zero control over, especially sports, particularly football.
Deebo is 29 years old and is essentially on a one-year deal for $15,825,505, so it's a smart move to get the upgrade at WR3 for one season. However, to be clear, he's 29 and not ideally suited to be anything more than a one-year rental. I suspect they'll get someone else to fill that role in time, since they can't fix all things in one off-season.

I'm not particularly fond of what the Rams did but any comparison to what Washington is currently doing is silly. The key piece is the QB and Stafford was well established before the Rams traded for him. Daniels is going into his second year and on his rookie contract, and that's a big difference between the two situations. I'm not interested in a one-and-done configuration at all, Philly is young and the Commanders must follow suit, but that's not to say that as the younger upgrades in talent come in, veterans can't be part of the equation. That said, I would wrinkle a brow or two if they signed someone like Chris Godwin (29), or Amari Cooper (31), who are upgrades for certain but hardly worth the price tag and years they would want.
