Factoring in production say for the last 3 seasons. As well as the cost and the contract for each player.

Trey Hendrickson would be my clear cut choice.

I don’t like giving up resources and then having to pay them as well . I would go sweat then I keep my resources

I'm doing Garrett but ONLY because those two 1sts are going to be in 26 and 27. The post June 1st Trade would not include this year so essentially the Commanders get him for "free" in 2025. (Note the quotations)

No one is "giving up" a resource in the Hendrickson scenario.

They would still have to pay his salary for this year so not exactly free but not 30 million either.

I voted for TH. Better player than Sweat. MG will cost too much is draft compensation

What evidence do you have that TH is better than Sweat? I am not saying he isn’t but I’m curious as to the evidence. TH has a lot of sacks but he also plays on a historically bad defense. Garrett has the stats and little surrounding talent but his defenses are always respectable. Sweat on the other hand, plays only 60% of the snaps, Garrett plays 75-80%, and TH plays 70%. Josh Sweat obviously plays within the defensive scheme, sets the edge, and frees up the LBers.

just personal opinion. Exactly he plays on a bad defense where offenses can key on him to stop him and they still can't. Sweat plays on the best team and his overall dline talent if better than Cincy and Cle. So, is Sweat a product of the system? Offenses know they have to only stop one player on the Cincy d line and they cant do it.

The eternal conundrum of playing within the system and playing for stats.

Josh Sweat had 41 tackles, 27 solo
Trey Hendrickson had 46 tackles, 33 solo.

TH also played in 150 more snaps. Josh Sweat was released to attack the passer in the SB, and he had 2.5 sacks.

All players play within a system don't they?

Or are you implying JS plays within a system IE is disciplined/team orientated

Whereas TH plays for stats does what he wants IE is undisciplined/plays for self

And from the site I used. TH played 203 more snaps than JS. 825 snaps to Sweat's 622 snaps.

What you call playing for stats almost seems as if you're saying TH is selfish. Others might view it simply as production.

Sacks - TH 17.5 sacks - JS 8 sacks.

Tackles for loss - TH 19 TFL - JS 9 TFL

Pass Defensed - TH 6 PDs - JS 2 PDs

Forced fumbles - TH 2 FF - JS 0 FF

Reggie White, Kony Ealy, Darnell Dockett and Grady Jarrett are all tied for having the most sacks in a Super Bowl with 3 a piece.

Reggie is the best DE I've witnessed play football. He's arguably the greatest DE in NFL history and w/o question one of the greatest pass rusher to evver play. Ealy had 15 sacks in his 5 year career. Dockett had 40.5 sacks in 10 year career and Grady presently has 36.5 sacks in his on going 10 year career.

Maybe JS simply had a very good even a great game in the Super Bowl and came up with 2.5 sacks. But if he was truly released to attack the passer as you say. If the Skins do sign him in FA. I hope they release him to attack the passer a whole lot more than Philly did

a 2nd round pick is a resource
An unknown and unproven resource.

A DE who had 57 sacks in the last 4 years and 35 in the last 2 years is a known and proven resource.

Trading one resource for another is not losing a resource.

Very true…production is a known resource.

Age is a known factor.

Is a decline a gradual process or does it come on a cliff?

I am stating that defensive statistics doesn’t always tell the complete story. There is an implication in what I said that TH plays in a system that allows him to attack more than Josh Sweat.

I won’t be disappointed if we get TH and understand if we do. For me, it is just far less impressive to get statistics on a horrible defense than it is to be really good on a great defense.
