The only real surprise to me is the release of Ross. They found the cojones to "bite the bullet". Rather than justify his roster spot with his salary, they just accepted it as a sunk cost & decided to move forward with the young guys. It's the right call. I just didn't think they had it in them.
I thought all along that Tomas would start the season in Reno. He needs time to adjust & refine his defense. With the play of Lamb & the release of Ross, it probably means a quick turnaround in Reno if he hits well & will be playing LF/3B in a quasi platoon role with Peralta/Lamb upon his call-up. But mostly LF. I imagine that is where he will be playing in Reno.
Looks like the final roster spot decision came doe to if they wanted Pacheco to be the backup C, if not, then Laird needed to be on the roster. So that left Pacheco, a utility guy who can play 7 positions or Ross. Again, releasing Ross is the right call.
Now we just wait to see if the Dbacks can find trading partners for Hill & Nuno.
