By Jeff Todd | November 17, 2015 at 11:52am CST

Wait just a cotton picking minute. Derek Jeeter was a great Yankee. I always had the utmost respect for him.
Arod not at all.

We will miss Big Poppi's bat and all that he did for the Sox and all of New England.
That said I wonder if he will share the source of his meds with Peyton, he needs them bad right now.

If Papi shared his "sources" Peyton would be re-growing hair on his forehead by the weekend.

Now we just have to wait until 2021 to tell Rock he was wrong about Ortiz being a 1st ballot Hall of Famer.

Ortiz, who will turn 40 on Wednesday, did activate an option for the 2017 season by surpassing 600 plate appearances in 2015, but he will apparently be leaving $16 million on the table by retiring at the end of the 2016 season.

oh, and he is first ballot. easily.

As of right now, he'd be the 1st full-time DH to make the hall and the first player linked to steroid usage to make the hall.

But, sure, he's "easily" first ballot material. . .

I just saw this on bottom line as breaking news but missed the beginning and thought no way he's abruptly retiring.

Came here to see just announcing it in advance.

watch. its happening.

PS he never fiailed an MLB sanctioned test, and no one knows what he "failed" for 10 years ago.

Neither did Bonds, whose career dwarfs Ortiz's.
yes, true...but bonds went from this to this:

and ortizs transformation wasnt as drastic:

Is it bad I thought he had already retired and was just playing because the Red Sox needed to sell tickets

Don't get your hopes up for first ballot. I'm a homer and can't see it, not at DH.

He did not... However, doesn't mean he didn't use.

Wish him the best of luck and it will be sad to see him go but it's his time.

I like David Ortiz, but given his full-time DH status and the steroid speculation surrounding him, I don't think his inclusion to the hall is a given, much less 1st ballot.

The voters' stances on these issues would have to shift pretty drastically over the next six years for Ortiz to make it in on the first ballot.
