Nope, I was contrasting Boggs vs. Uggla. The big concern to me w/ Ugly is that Bochy won't be able to resist starting him 5 times a week.

Compared to the other options (assuming Panik is hurt) I am not opposed to that.

If he's not hitting, he won't be on the roster. If he is hitting, then Boch will be justified playing him 5 days a week.

Oh, like Francoeur and Guillen (who were on the roster for a long time despite not hitting)? Yeah, no thanks.

Francoeur was only a regular for 9 games, only played 22 overall before he was cut (seemed like a lot longer because everybody sucked). Guillen was filling in for Torres when he went down with his emergency appendectomy, then stuck around because the rosters expanded to 40. He lost most of his consistent PT when Torres returned was jettisoned once post-season started.

Guillen was a target of the org at the deadline and Ross was a mistake. Of course guillen was going to get the PT.

Frenchy was on the roster, but he didn't play that much. Also, there wasn't anyone else kicking in the door to take what little PT he did get away from him.

These Guillen and Frenchy comparisons are agrivating. You are better than that, Marco.

I couldn't believe that I mis-rememered Guillen's stay with the team so badly. I seemed to recall screaming in pain almost every day once the line-ups were announced because Bochy was running Guillen out there once again. It turns out I *wasn't* mis-remembering.

Guillen was aquired Aug 13th - NOT at the deadline.

From Aug 15-Sep 11, Guilen started EVERY GAME, except :

....... Aug 24 (no play), Aug 30 (no play), Sep 6 (1 AB).

Andres Torres had his appendectomy on Sep 17, and last played on Sep 11th.

Sorry, that isn't "oh Guillen was only playing because Torres was out". That is "Guillen is playing because Bochy plays the vets".

Concerning Francoeur

Francoeur was signed in early July and had a few games in the minors to "get some time in". He had a line of : .222/.222/.222/.444 in Fresno. Then they called him up (even though he has signed a minor league deal) and he hit just as poorly for the Giants. That is a PITIFUL line. He STILL got 62 ABs (15 starts during his 5 weeks) before they dumped him. He was run out day after day even with shit stats because that's what Bochy does with "vets".

If Uggla come up and hits, great. If he sucks and he spends a lot of time on the bench and is a PH, I'll be fine with that. If he starts because Panik is injured, that's fine too (he can't be worse than Arias). But if he starts 4-5 times a week and sucks while Panik sits on the bench, I'll be pissed. Panik should be getting the majority of the starts *unless* Uggla can come through offensively.

And I don't think that the Guillen / Frenchy comparisons are aggravating, I am afraid that they will be spot-on : a guy run out to start day after day even though he's not producing.

15 starts in 5 weeks = 3 starts per week.

Who would you have preferred they start? Tanaka? There simply wasn't anyone else who could play. That was why he was signed.

Again, as for Guillen, he was the guy the org went out and got ON PURPOSE. Ross was the guy they got stuck with BY MISTAKE. Of course Guillen was going to get the PT. We were actually lucky he got busted which forced the org to go with Ross. But Guillen was a guy the org traded for, not picked out of the trash.

I forgot to post the answer, sorry folks!!

The answer is : three days. :L (where's the barf emoticon?)

Giants 2B collectively this season are hitting 183/265/291, yet you are going to complain about signing Uggla to a minor league deal? Uggla has been terrible the past season and a half and there is no guarantee that a change of scenery will help, but its a no brainer to bring Uggla in and see what happens when looking at how terrible our own 2B options have been. Its a no risk pickup and if Scutaro can't get right or can only play a few times a week, it could be a very helpful acquisition that was FREE. Not sure what there is to bitch about right now.

Plus I would hope that this focuses Sabean more on a CF/leadoff hitter, which I think is more important. The Giants likely do not have the assets it would take to acquire anything of quality at CF AND 2B, so this provides another possible solution to add to Marco and Panik.
