We'll see..... The Saints D might just really stink. And Matty Ice is a .500 qb with average stats when he's on the road.

Dalton, Jackson and the offense have no excuse to not put the ball in the end zone next week. We're facing a below average D that we should be able to run it on.

Our defensive line needs a huge game. I'm not sure of their status for Sunday but I'm pretty sure Atlanta's OL has a bunch of key injuries. Ryan's a very good, but not quite elite QB imo. But their 3 WR receiver set is the best in the league by a good margin. The bengals don't have the personnel to cover them without heavy pressure on Ryan

Should be a shootout this week....need to get tds, not fgs........Atl defense can be beaten, but from what I saw v the Ravens so can ours......hope Burfict flies through the concussion protocol because our defense simply isn't the same without him.....

Dalton isn't the best QB out there nor is he the worst. The game Jay called vs SD was garbage. I feel bad for my Deadskin friends who are fans. Jay isn't going to bring that team winning football.
After one game you can see the impact Hue has had on Dalton.

I didn't watch a single play from that game, but the boxscore is insane. 400 yards of total offense, 75-80 percent completion rate in the passing game with 6 yards per carry on the ground. 6 points on the scoreboard. There were a couple lost fumbles but the turnovers weren't excessive. I'm not sure how an offense can pull that off

Gruden is not the issue. RGIII is. He was last season as well.

And let's not get carried away, the Bengals scored 15 points, with some of those coming due to turnovers, through the first 3.5+ quarters. I'm not ready to anoint Hue anything yet.

I'm not necessarily blaming Gruden, but something was off in that game based on the numbers.

About Hue, his track record as a playcaller in Oakland speaks for itself. They were 10th in yards and 6th in points one season with Bruce Gradkowski/Jason Campbell throwing to Darrius Hayward-Bey and Jacoby Ford

I won't anoint Hue anything.... But the offense did look much better on the same field that they looked completely lost last fall. And after we lost Eifert, he was without 3 key guys that were here with Gruden (Eifert, Hawk and Jones).

Overall the plan failed in that we didn't score enough points. But it succeeded in that it masked some of Dalton's limitations and was at least successful holding the ball (for the first half anyway).

Would have had an earlier touchdown if Gresham knew how to run a route to completion.

We scored more than the Ravens! All while several keys players were injured on offense, a rookie center, and the heart and soul of our defense going down (Burfict). It is no coincidence, the Ravens mustered 88 yards of total offense while Burfict was in the game (through 28 1/2 minutes) and then tallied 332 yards through the last 31 1/2 minutes.

Burfict is a true NFL Defensive MVP candidate, and if they allowed it really, a possible NFL MVP candidate. They seem to like to only give that later award to QB's or RB's though.

the ravens are obviously in deep shit, and may be only slightly ahead of the browns until johnny football takes over.

we have some talent on this team and for once in this teams existence a few injuries didn't become an excuse to get blown out.

no eifert, we got gresham
no jones, we got sanu
no burfict is probably the one that hurts the most, but we got vinny

Plan or execution?

Again, Gresham has a TD walking into the endzone if he completes his route. Dalton made the correct throw, and Gresham just stopped. That's 7 right there.

I think the overall plan was pretty good, actually. The execution at times is another story. However, they did enough, and that's the bottom line. Any win on the road, in the division, is a good win. It beats the hell out of a pretty loss.

Ultimately the coaches have to take some responsibility for the plan and execution. After all, they're the ones installing the offense, teaching the offense and holding the players accountable for executing the offense. If we're going to separate plan and execution we should all be much easier on Bob Bratkowski -- Hard to judge how awful he really was if Chad and TO were never running the right routes.

Don't get me wrong.... I love me some Hue. I think he's going to be a nice upgrade for us. I think his real value is going to be putting Dalton in more situations where he can succeed. Hue was able to make an offense with Jason Campbell look functional. He should do wonders with Dalton.

I'm with you, I was just pointing out that the lack of execution directly led to 1 TD not happening. Gresham couldn't have been more wide open unless he was Calvin Johnson on his first TD...Yet, he stopped while Dalton threw the ball where the play dictated it go.

I think we'll also see more Hill going forward to help with between the tackles running. Gio is great, but he's a side bender and a pass-catcher. He needs space. He'll get his runs between the tackles, but ultimately, that's not where he's going to butter his bread. That's where Hill comes in. A between the tackles guy that happens to catch passes pretty well, too. But he's more of a power force to help wear down defenses and control the clock. Something that this team was in dire need of in the 2nd half this past week.

Hue as much as admitted he wasn't yet ready to trust Hill with a greater workload, especially in his first NFL game on the road v the Ravens. He also indicated that as time went on he was sure Hill would get a chance to carry the ball plenty. As his effectiveness increases, his workload will incrementally increase. Maybe Hue thinks the home opener is a good place to start. I know I do............

There was something about Hue apologizing to Hill and assuring him that they would use him more going forward.

I agree that on the road, against the ravens front, is a daunting task for a rookie, but the offense really needed that power. one series, or two, at the end wasn't going to be the end of the world. You use him, get a few bumps against the defense, and get them rotating in and out...then you can bring Gio back and use the quickness.
