Tarik with some info on Carlos Fields
The Redskins have signed linebacker Carlos Fields to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, the team announced Saturday afternoon.
Fields takes the roster spot of safety Trenton Robinson, who was waived/injured on Friday.
Fields (6 foot 1, 238 pounds) figures to play special teams and provide depth at inside linebacker, a position that’s been besieged by injuries in recent weeks. Perry Riley is out three-to-six weeks with a foot injury and Keenan Robinson is questionable for Monday night’s game due to a shoulder injury.
The starters at inside linebacker against the Cowboys are expected to be Will Compton and Mason Foster. The backups figure to be Fields and Robinson— if Robinson is able to suit up.
Fields played college ball at Winston-Salem State. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Oakland in 2014. He was signed to the Redskins’ practice squad in November after stints on the practice squads of the Buccaneers, Giants and Colts.
The 25-year-old has yet to appear in an NFL regular season game.
