Well everyone expected Manning to clear waivers because his contract was obscene, and he had that 28 million dollar bounus. Hutch only had a couple more seasons at 6.8 million a season or so. I would've gladly taken that.

So, would you want Iupati to move to the right side in that scenario? Has he ever even played on the right side?

I'd put Hutch on the right side. He'd have no problem playing RG.

No. Veterans don't go on waivers. I figured everyone who posted at espn knew this because it comes up every year.

Well you thought wrong. :)

Now that I think about it this waiver concept sounds vaguely familiar. I must've forgotten.

I think you're wrong. When a player is cut (and clears waivers if he's not a veteran apparently) he becomes a FA immediately. That's why Manning could sign at any time.

Unless the NFL doesn't process players on the weekends of course.

And that's what I'm referring to- it's not a business day do there isn't any processing.
Just as when Manning was cut, he didn't become a FA until 4pm ET after his paperwork cleared. So I'm connecting dots to presume Hutch won't be able to sign until Monday sometime.
And although IMac stated vets don't clear waivers, why then did Orton go to the waiver wire? Are offseason transactions handled differently?

How many games has he missed the last couple of seasons?

From '03-'09 he didn't miss a single game/start. In '10 he played in and started 11 games and this last season he played in and started 14 games. This last year he ended up on I.R. with a fairly serious concussion (granted all concussions are a relatively serious matter). The year before that it was a thumb injury that caused him to miss games and then in the offseason it was revealed he had knee surgery. For what exactly? I'd have to dig deeper. And if you want to go back an offseason before that one he had shoulder surgery.

He's also had a back injury and knee sprains prior to those injuries but as far as I know neither were real serious, and as I mentioned, he didn't miss any games because of either issue there.

Thanks for the info' CP. That doesn't sound like anything career threatening (especially the thumb injury). I'd be more than happy to have him in a Niners' uniform.

My bad, we are about 25 under the cap. I forgot Matt doesn't include cutting Spencer and he probably counts cap holds by guys like the 3rd long snapper, etc.

I think we sign two WRs, 1 CB, and 1 QB at the very least. Wether Alex and Rogers are amongst them is the multi-million dollar question.

Going off memory I think our cap holds for the draft class total $4+ mill. We have $20 mill to play with.

My wish list:

Peyton, Wayne, Hutch, Tyler Brayton, Rogers, Ginn, and a situationl pass ruser. I think that could all fit in 20 million. I'd be happy as a clam. There'd be a cap bubble in a few years, but I'm fine with that as long as the Niners have this team for a couple. That'd almost guarantee at least 1 SB.

Maybe Andre Caldwell if there's room & he's not too expensive.

And maybe another minimal DL like Tommie Harris, Gerrard Warren or Aubrayo Franklin for cheap.

...and Manny if he's sign for like a million.

Oh and the situational pass rusher could possibly come in the draft. Maybe Curry or even Irvin.
