To list 9-7 makes the study less alarming to me. I know it's just 1 win over .500 but with the last 10 years, until last year, 9-7 was quite elusive.

They could have made it more dramatic and say "win their division" instead of "9-7 or worse," but with 7-9 working in 2010, I guess the numbers of those who lost division crowns would be fewer. 9-7 sometimes isn't good enough (Chicago 2008, for example).

Correct me if I'm wrong, I fixed your post to what I thought you meant in the quote (9-7, not 7-9).
