The “cuts” and options don’t mean anything in actual practice. Guys not in MLB camp appear in games all the times.

My WAG about Auerbach is that he is still “up” as an attaboy for the kid. He had a great spring, and I think the org is making a point of letting him know it was noticed.
That makes sense. Also, they may want to get more of a look at him in different situations before they assign him.

And he was an UDFA

GREAT job by the scouting department.
There needs to be an asterisk on that as he was an NDFA in 2020, the year the draft only went 5 rounds. He could well have been a 6th round pick. Still, a good pickup by the org.

roster has been changed to the regular season format.

I think I read that options will not count for the first month of the season, so I won’t add the “+” until later.

And, apparently, according to this article, the rules on how options work have changed:
"Players can be optioned to the minors a maximum of five times per season before they must be exposed to waivers."

Have we not discussed this here this off season? The rule was put in place almost specifically to go against Farhan. Even though only 1 Giants player would have been effected by this rule (Vosler, I think).

I don't think it will make that much of a difference. Its pretty rare that a player is sent down 6+ times in the same season.

I wonder why Marte? He put up poor numbers last year in spring training and in AAA and again this spring training. I guess the club figures that he'll somehow figure out in the big leagues what he couldn't figure out in AAA or in spring training? After all, they purchased his contract after a rather mediocre AAA in 2021.

Maybe a “shit or get off the pot” opportunity? Telling him to defend his 40 slot?
