And when he gets bitter he gets motivated and becomes superhuman. So, be careful what ye wish fer.

Not sure why I went Pirate there at the end. I did watch Dodgeball earlier. That could be a factor. Y'arrrrr...

Whatttt? In our series, bitter Crosby and Malkin were not exactly elevating their games.

Nah, shouldn't be on the ice at all. I'm all for gamesmanship, and yeah, Giroux played the next series, but come on. Crosby broke both of Giroux's wrists. Now if Giroux was trying to win the faceoff by leaning over and grabbing the puck, that'd be understandable, but don't bullshit us. If faceoff attempts were that big a hazard you'd have this happen more often. If Crosby's attempts were clean he wouldn't have gotten BOTH of Giroux's arms. If you wanna toss in a couple of cheap shots, fine, you're an asshole, but fine. Tap a guy's thigh or his calf, give him a little hit after the whistle, whatever. Stay away from joints and other key injury areas - like wrists or knees or ankles.

Funny thing is before this I didn't think Crosby was a total punk. Oh, I sure as fuck didn't like him, but if you'd offered me a trade for pretty much anyone but G I would have said yes. Now? Penguins can keep him. I just hope the next time he plays Giroux breaks his wrist again - punching Crosby in the face.

And yeah, fuck the instigator.

that's exactly what i am saying. seriously read that book. it's got some great interviews with former players, and it shows how the game would truly be much cleaner if there was no instigator penalty. if that were the case, and Crosby did what he did, he would be held accountable for it. but now if you start a fight, you put your team shorthanded.

Everyone know what today was supposed to be?

Pens @ Flyers | 7pm | NHL Network

Don't give two fucks about this stupid ass story from a season ago when these greedy SOB's can't agree on a new labor agreement.

Funny, this is brought up in the very same interview. Basically Sid said he wished this stuff stayed on the ice, but realizes that in today's world the media is always involved. Pretty much he said he wished the crap stayed between players and didn't become a battle of quotes in the newspaper.

Of course he does because he knows the officials let the pens get away with murder

Are these the same Flyer fans who love Bobby Clarke, and enjoyed seeing Hatcher crosscheck Crosby to the face, knocking out teeth?

Fans of Giroux, who after whining to the refs for not getting a call, goes and headshots Zubrus?

Shit never gets old. Giroux didn't miss a shift, and needed some off-season work. Boo-fucking-hoo.

Everyone got away with crap in that series. It was a mess from the second the puck dropped. Just...a weird, weird series that I never want to see happen again no matter what teams are playing. I don't like that brand of hockey. And I really agree with him on the staying on the ice thing. I hate when crap gets brought up in the media...I understand gamesmenship and that stuff, but pulling Torterella-esque crap is just annoying.

Chillax man, it's flyers fans calling Crosby a bitch. I'm pretty sure we'd call him a bitch if he flossed after brushing. It's what we do. We hate him, he hates us. Good ole fashioned hockey.

And it's our duty to protect him, even if he steps on kittens in his free time.......

Okay, I could NEVER defend that. NEVER.

while we are airing grievances about Crosby, this has always bugged me. maybe not technically his fault, but the media's. The following goal always shows up in top 10 lists.... what the fuck is the big deal?
he fell down of his own accord, and managed to keep his stick on the ice. he didn't heroically fight through a check, he didn't dive to just barely reach the puck.... the fucker fell down and managed to face the right direction.
since I was 10 years old, one of the skating drills in practice has been to fall to your knee, knees or belly and retain control and get back up again. this is not worthy of admiration.

And got a game for said headshot, and rightly so. The only thing that pissed me off about the suspension wasn't that Giroux got it, it's that the Shanabans last post season were even more wildly inconsistent than usual.

That said, while it doesn't mitigate the danger of what Giroux did, I at least prefer to have a guy who only does something risky when he loses his temper as opposed to a guy who does something risky EVERY FACEOFF.

Meh, I don't particularly like it, but I don't think it's necessarily the worst goal ever. He certainly extended more than most. I think there are better goals out there, but I'd put this one in the top 100, sure. It might be a move everyone can do, but it's not the sort of thing you see very often, and that gives it some respectability right there.

Now if we are talking Penguin goals that don't deserve accolades, I think this one fits:

It's just not that great a goal. Malkin dekes one forward, and by dekes I mean he skates straight forward, and the two defensemen just kind of exist. The move on the dman was nice, but again, he wasn't exactly threatening to do anything anyway. Less goal of the year and more a how not to play defense.

And Flyer goals, so I's not a homer:

Yeah, it was a big shorthanded goal, and hurray for Richards for hustling towards the puck, but this was an empty net goal because Halak and Hamerlik didn't communicate and Richards got the bounce. The hit later in the video (earlier in the game) was nice, but I wouldn't call it an all-world shift, just a very good one.

reminds me of the one that was on the top of the list of top10 sid goals that prompted my post.
can't find vid right now. the one where he steps into 4 habs, "dekes them all" and scores.
kudos for going into the teeth of the defense, not many would do that. but for the "deke" he took one step to the left on (awful, awful) Sheldon Souray and then took a shot.

funny how frequently Souray is on the receiving end of highlight reel goals.

The hardest goals don't always end up on the highlight reel. Just the prettiest. What always impressed me about the Sid falling one was more that he was 18 and he had the awareness to know to do that, especially since time was running down. Heck, I think deflection goals are probably the toughest. No idea how those guys can do that stuff.

Yeah, that simple off-season work was two god damn wrist surgeries. And I'd say it was barely work. Our medical staff had kind of just let players play through injuries lately that hurt their games big time (See: JVR, Richards).

Love Bobby Clarke? You under the impression that we're still the Bullies or something?

I dont think any Flyers fan think that was some dirty goal. It was more "LOL HOLY SHIT DAT JUST HAPPENED THOUGH" kidna thing. And it was a clinching game.
