This is a bad injury because you can't get the proper diet that you want and can have an effect longer than the injury itself.

Yup a buddy of mine had a brokan jaw once way back when. He lost like 30 pounds

Good point because he has been concussed and that was a pretty good shot to the head he took.

Exactly, you go on a liquid diet for a while for sure.

1st time I saw that replay I thought he is done for the year. That puck caught him square with full impact and with his concussion past I figured he was done.

Hope he gets well fast and I am wrong. I cant stand him as a player but also hate to see any hockey player get hurt.

Had to check and make sure Boss was not trolling me :)

He's not had concussion symptoms based on reports. I'll say he's ready for the start of the playoffs. A mandible (jaw) fracture can vary greatly because it's a big hinged joint. If you injure it at the TMJ (where jaw meets skull by your ears), there's a much, much bigger problem. Sid got hit square on the chin, which is a less complicated part to fix. SO, if that's the only place the fracture occurred (which is impossible for me to know), he's got a chance at a quick(er) recovery.

They'll wire it and he'll wear a full face mask in the playoffs. Might hinder his play some but then again Crosby at 80% is better than most players

Where is Rick Tocchet when you need him???

You wake up in the morning, go to work, and throughout the course of the day, you suffer a fractured jaw. Do you continue to work, or go to the doctor and get it taken care of? I think the majority of us would take the rest of the day off, and get the problem corrected. Coyotes right winger Rick Tocchet does not fit in with the majority of us. On March 15th, 1992, Tocchet suffered a fractured jaw in the first period. Not only did he continue to play that night, but he scored two goals including the game winner. To Tocchet, it is just part of the game. "We were .500 at the time, you want to play and you want to try to win. It's amazing when you have adrenaline. The next day I was obviously in pain, but during the game you just don't think about it." Just the type of attitude the Coyotes were looking for when they brought the 13 year veteran aboard this past off-season.

That particular injury would only keep Tocchet out of the lineup for three games. Just a few months later, he would take a drink from hockey's ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup, in the second half of back to back championships for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tocchet was a key instrument in the Penguins second run, scoring six goals and 13 assists in 14 playoff games.

They don't wire 'em shut as often these days. Once again: depends on where the fx is. Close to the joint they will to prevent motion/reinjury. I hope he avoids that.

anyways, this sucks. I am sure that hopefully if he is out for a monthish, they will use the vast $$$ that joe schmo does not have and get him a liquid diet that is nutritious / complete enough to keep him in good condition.

This is Sid that we're talking about, so I'd be shocked if he didn't make it back for the playoffs.

If he does finish the regular season in the press box, does he still win the Hart?

Hard to see Stammer getting it with the Lightning finishing so low. Kane?
