Outside of releasing Roberts when he is healthy, what other ways could the team save cap room? If we sign Cousins to a long term deal, we might save a few million but thats it I feel. Cutting Litch and restructuring Garcon would help a tad as well.

Bottom line is that we need to free up more space so we can fully address some of the holes we have. No need to go on a shopping spree, but have space is always a good thing.

Rework the following

Garcon
Jackson
Trent

Sign Kirk long term

Cut Roberts

Any other moves at this point might be counter productive.

The real question is... do we need more cap room if we are seriously planning to rebuild through the draft??

Cutting Culliver would save us $9.6M.

I think there is a chance he is cut or we re-negotiate his deal. Once we resign Blackmon, some things should shake out with Culliver soon thereafter.

Cutting Roberts would save us $3M. We are waiting until he passes a physical, since he ended the year on IR.

Riley would save us $5M.

*We can still create ALOT of cap room if we wanted. As Sharkinva mentioned, Scott our GM likes to build through the draft. However, there are some good FA's to go after.

Apparently, rumored free agents targets for the Redskins (source IBN Sports Wrap) :

Andre Holmes (WR) - Raiders
Jermaine Kearse (WR) - Seahawks
Brandon Marshall (LB) - Broncos
Derrick Johnson (LB) - Chiefs
Ben Jones (C) - Texans
Alex Mack (C) - Browns
Lamar Miller (RB) - Dolphins
Reggie Nelson (S) - Bengals
Tashaun Gipson (S) - Browns
Robert Ayers (DL) - Giants
Janoris Jenkins (CB) - Rams

Here would be my list of targets(I got this from Mskins at KFFL):

Bilal Powell, RB, Jets. Age: 27
Jermaine Kearse, WR, Seahawks. Age: 26
Mohamed Sanu, WR, Bengals. Age: 27
Dwayne Allen, TE, Colts. Age: 26
Ben Jones, C, Texans. Age: 27

Damon Harrison, NT, Jets. Age: 27
Ian Williams, NT, 49ers. Age: 27
Jaye Howard, DE/DT, Chiefs. Age: 27
Kendall Reyes, DE/DT, Chargers. Age: 26
Demario Davis, ILB, Jets. Age: 27
Zach Brown, ILB, Titans. Age: 26
Donald Butler, ILB, Chargers. Age: 27
Sean Spence, ILB, Steelers. Age: 26
Casey Hayward, CB, Packers. Age: 26
Sean Smith, CB, Chiefs. Age: 29
Brandon Boykin, CB, Steelers. Age: 26
Jeremy Lane, CB, Seahawks. Age: 26
George Iloka, S, Bengals. Age: 26
Tashaun Gipson, S, Browns. Age: 26

Wherever these rumored guys came from, I would question your source. From memory, I believe...

Brandon Marshall RFA
Ben Jones is signing with Tennessee

According to Keim, Perry Riley is 'safe' for now

From what I hear, Culliver isn't going anywhere. I'm a bit concerned as to how he'll come back from his ACL / MCL tear. But the Redskins had a chance to void his guaranteed salary this year, converting it to completely non-guaranteed money and thus making it very cap-friendly. However, they're not doing that, a sign that he's staying.

SM has always preached low FA activity but when you look at his first off season he signed a lot of guy, several to pretty big deals. I'm thrilled we are no longer in the news the first day FA begins but to think he won't be active again is kind of hard to figure.

Why in the world is Perry Riley safe for now?

Likely depth at this point but now that Mason is back in the fold, who knows

I think it was obvious which one played better. I'm so done with the Perry Rileys of this team, guys who have been here forever and never done much.
