If you want to pick an extreme upset, say a 15 over a 2, you really need to think about the higher seed. Do you feel confident that they will not advance much farther even if they win that game? Take people saying Belmont will beat Virginia. If Virginia wins that game, do you see them losing soon after? Because if you pick that extreme upset and the favorite ends up going say to the final 4, your bracket is really toast.
It is great bragging rights if you pick Belmont and they win, but it only counts as 1 point in the 1st round and you probably have them losing in the next round anyway. That is why to win a bracket pool, the upset picks rarely make the difference between winning and losing.
