Cowboys DE Tyrone Crawford suffered a torn Achilles' on the first day of training camp and will miss the enter 2013 season.

The 81st pick in the 2012 draft, Crawford was markered in as Dallas' No. 3 end behind DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer. At 6-foot-4, 275, he was easily the Cowboys' biggest defensive end, and coming off a promising rookie year as a run stopper. As we've noted repeatedly, Dallas' run defense is shaping up as suspect on paper with one of the smallest front sevens in football. And after years of poor drafting, the Cowboys' depth is in rapid decline. The Crawford injury is a sizable blow to a team whose arrow was already pointing down.

Hmmm.... I don't know why I was worried about depth, or the fact we didn't add anyone to the DL.
What was I worried about????

I need to get into the NFL rules. If he is injured and has to go on IR, does that give us any salary cap relief to try to sign a replacement?

Fordman, I don't believe it does. That's why every team tries to leave at least a couple Mil of salary cap free going into the season. This way you can sign vets as injuries occur.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure you are right but was hoping.

Stupid Mara and his petty, underhanded cap stealing ways

Are ou guys tapped out in salary cap? I know we are pretty close. I think we have maybe $2-3M in space left. Of course that all depends on who makes the final roster. Some vets on both out teams might not make the final 53 just due to salary cap issues.

I think we are in the same boat. We have enough to be able to grab a couple of spares off the street, but that's about it.

If a player goes on IR his full salary counts against the cap and his season is over. He can continue to workout and what not, but he can't play anymore. The only time the player's salary does not count against the cap is if he has it in his contract not to, or in some cases only half the player's salary would count against the cap if they are a late round pick or an undrafted player. For Crawford though he will count in full to my knowledge. It's not like he has a big number on the cap though as he only carries a cap hit of about 650k for the season, so even if he did provide relief it would not be much.

Crawford being out doesnt really hurt Dallas as far as the cap goes. But from a depth along the defensive line standpoint goes, considering that the FA market is bare at the moment, it gets painful. Crawford having to rehab an injury and not being able to practice with the team until next off season could hurt his development.

I saw they may be looking at Jamaal Anderson who played two games for Cincy last year before tearing his quad. I don't think they'll sign a big name like John Abraham who'll probably want to get paid coming off a 10 sack season last year.

According to "OverTheCap" Dallas has 9.14M and Washington is as 1.4M.

I'm hoping Dallas can roll much of the cap space over to 2014 to help relieve some of the burdens of a few other contracts. With Mara's bullshit Cap penalty being off the books Dallas and to a Greater extent Washington should be OK capwise going forward.

Next man up he is not the first & certainly will not be the last player to get injured........

Crawford wasn't making much .... he really wasnt a cap hit anyway.

Hurts us more ... in I thought the kid was gonna be a solid player for us. Broke my heart seeing he was out for the season.

Naw, this team didn't need to draft any DL? :laugh3:

Ratliff injured again? Check
Spencer hurt again? Check
Crawford (their biggest DE on the smallest DE 4-3 in the league) hurt and done for the season already? Check

I love it when I'm right.

wonder if that gimpy shoulder of Ware's will hold up from playing with his hand on the ground all season long against much bigger players?? Obviously Jerry, Garrett, and the fans where still in awe over Frederick the lock all-pro during the draft?

Or .... there is the alternative..

Trade 3 drafts for McFadden..... don't worry even on this board everyone remembers your line of STUPID draft picks
