Looking at Raiders depth Chart - they also have Andre Holmes who was with us two years ago. They are being really optimistic about Dez and 4-6 weeks. I would think if they thought 8-10 they would put him on IR with intent to return. this is just a head scratcher to me right now

Dallas makes trade with Oakland for Brice Butler a 6ft 3 receiver who was inactive for Oakland last week. Anyone know much about him?

Fast, runs good routes, but his hands can sometimes be a problem. He gets banged up a little.

However, with Romo throwing him the ball he could be the next Laurent Robinson. Meaning a breakout player with a really good QB throwing him the ball.

To some degree the Raiders woe's have to come down to talent evaluation ..or the lack their of.

We have some depth at WR this season and he was pretty the much the odd man out. We had a guy named Seth Roberts who played lights out in pre-season and basically took Butler's spot. I like Butler a lot but he gets banged up a bit. He only played 10 games his rookie season and he played 15 last season but always seemed to be battling an injury.

It was a good pickup for Dallas.....you needed another WR with Dez getting hurt and he can play. It's not like he's a scrub or anything. He's still young enough to have a solid career. And like I said......with Romo throwing to him, he could turn into something special.

He's never caught more than 3 passes in any game and his best game was 3 catches 64 yards and a TD last season against San Diego. If anyone can make him a star its Romo.

He's never gotten a lot of PT either.

Career high in targets is 5. Romo could throw him the ball that many times in a half, LOL.

His career-high is a 55 yard reception, he can run down the field.

Do you think he is better than Andre Holmes?

We get Butler and a 6th for a 5th. Yes Nicks has the experience but whoever was brought in was going to be for depth, and Butler is cheaper. I trust McClay and the scouts.

IDK, I like Holmes a lot also. He's had a few good games in Oakland and I was mad when we acquired Crabtree. I wanted Holmes to get a chance to start opposite Cooper.

I'd say Butler and Holmes are similar but Butler has battled injuries a little more often. Personally, I guess if I had to.....I'd take Holmes but that's not to say Butler sucks. He'll play through the injures. He's not a pussy. You got a solid player for a cheap price. He's got experience, it's not like you picked up a player that was just floating around out there as a FA.

I was surprised to see Nicks a FA, thought he was on a team somewhere. I'm sure Butler's a lot cheaper than Nicks would have been.

And to think Nicks use to be in the same conversation as Dez & the rest of the elite WR in their age group.

I'd say Dallas should start Williams and Beasley and bring Butler off the bench since he doesn't know the playbook yet. And expect Romo to go to his trusty safety valve Witten 12-15 times a game (instead of 7-9). He's the main beneficiary of the injury to Dez imo.

Not sure what happened to him. Did he sustain an injury or something? He went from 16ypc to 10.7.

I wanted him over Crabtree this past free agency, thought he would have been a nice backup to Holmes (really wanted him to start).

He got hurt while with the Giants, actually the same injury Dez has now. He kept having setbacks & never has been the same.

Oh okay. He's still just 27, you'd think he just needs time. He's still young enough to recover......in theory, at least.

Not sure if he has the desire or work either. Those are some of the things that makes Dez special.

True. Nicks was good but never superstar material.

The great players have a different wotk ethic that separates them from the rest of the pack.

The thing that bothers me is, if he wasn't good enough to be active week one for the Raider what good will he be here?
He's not going to be active here either. Need a WR on the roster in case of injury and for practice. Plus, maybe he plays STs?

So if we cut him in the next 6 weeks he costs us NOTHING. If we like him enough to keep we give Oak our 5th and get their 6th. Based on an educated guess that will likely be less than 10 picks apart. Sounds like a low cost move to me.
