Cowboys still have plenty of cap space so why no Dak extension?

I've heard that Dak wants near $40 million. He may just be holding out. Or, perhaps Jones told him that he won't be able to make him an offer till they get Zeke back. So now that they've got him signed to an extension, perhaps now they can begin really talking to Dak.

He's a "walk around" head coach against his will. He was the offensive play caller and was unable to manage challenges or the clock, so they took the duties away. He's not the only HC that has an OC and DC that call plays. Rod and Kris Richard actually both call the defense.

But I believe Jason Garrett is the only coach in the NFL that does not choose his coaching staff.

That was going around a lot not too long ago but I though that was debunked. There could be some truth to it though because base on current cap space and future cap numbers I can't think of a justifiable reason that Dak has not got an extension unless they Cowboys are low balling him ie...$25 mil or he is asking too much money ie...$40 mil.

Why not just have Moore or someone else as HC then? It's eerily similar to the Jim Zorn fiasco in Washington, several years back. Garrett gets something like $5-6M a year to do whatever he does- I'll assume it's a lot more behind-the-scenes, meeting management stuff. Garrett hasn't exactly been on the cusp of greatness during his tenure: 2 first round playoff wins, and 3 losses. I'm guessing Jones has some kind of comfort with Garrett there, or believes in some misguided "sunk cost" argument. Getting a new HC / coaching scheme would probably be better.

I think you're on-point with the franchise tag prediction. Dak's the ideal player to use it on, at least as a negotiating tool.
garrett is a Jerry puppet, and he's also "jerry's guy". Jerry has been in love with the red headed genius since he had taht one good season as OC. Jerry wants to win with Jason because then it validates that Jerry found the "next guy" and that makes him a football guy.

Jason is also on the last year of his contract. If he doesn't make it to at least the NFCCG, he won't get another contract. I expect Bob Stoops to be our next HC.

Been watching him play since he was a freshman in HS.
Ok, found the guy who hasn't watched the guy play in the NFL. He's shown absolutely nothing while with the Cowboys. We have zero QB depth.

He was awesome in the preseason two years ago.

(Played for the same HS coaches as me. So I look past him being a Chippewa.)

Ok.....maybe I am. I have not heard of many teams that do not let the coach pick their staff. I will say this. I do not think a team with Superbowl aspirations operate like that. Other than the Cowboys.....but I can't say that for certain so I will see if I can find some examples.

Bullshit. Jason Garrett does not pick his own staff.
Well, if you say so. You are still free to think what you want, no matter how wrong you are.

Jerry better make sure that when they do throw all that money at Dak, they have an out. Right before Brady burst on the scene, the Pats still were on the early end of a monstrous $103mil contract extension with Bledsoe
