Many teams do just that. If you think he will pass waivers you take the chance and PS him. Doesn't always work though, remember Moore. I do think Vaughn clears.

Moore would have been a great backup if we could have kept him

Showers gives us multiple options for playing time. He's the safer hang on. If we get to #3 QB the team is screwed anyways.
