God, I hope so....

I would be VERY pleased to have to argue with people saying he does not deserve his ring...

dilfer is the worst. smith is doing his dilfer impersonation this year, but smith can actually move the ball downfield if needed.

Smith is absolutely better than Dilfer. As for winning the Super Bowl, I'd love it, but I'm not holding my breath.

you know, i glanced at the stats and i don't know how this guy can even say dilfer was better than smith is now. smith's career stats, which include all kinds of ways to ruin a qb's career, beats out dilfers career stats.

Dilfer was the definition of a team winning despite the QB. I had thought of Bradshaw right after Dilfer, good to see he was the "winner."

Yes, Smith would be. Although Dilfer and say Brad Johnson arent that good, both were statistically better than Smith. Talent wise its close, but I still believe both were more talented than Smith.

Dilfer's QB rating that year was 76.6, his previous career best was 82.8...what are you talking about?

Very well could be that is why I hope we can possibly get a backup to learn our offense in case of injury or just being Alex Smith. Go 49ers!!

and i don't have a clue how he came up with that crap. he sounds like someone who doesn't actually watch the niners play. smith had a coordinator fired during the season last year and had a better season than dilfer ever had.

So you didn't bother reading the article.

His argument is severely flawed. He says two things about Dilfer. He says he had a great year in 1997. The he says it was clear he was better than Alex Smith "when he won the super bowl.". Well, 1997 was three years prior to 2000. At the time of the Ravens super bowl he clearly was not the same quarterback. And let's talk about 1997 Dilfer. He made the probowl. Great. In 16 starts he threw for 2500 yards and 21 touchdowns and 11 picks. Alex has "never done anything close?" Last year Alex was better than 1997 Dilfer. He's had 3 years better than that. I'll also point out he only made the team as an injury fill-in. And the guys he beat out were Scott Mitchell and Danny Kanell.
