Internally names include: Darrin Simmons and Bill Lazor. But, for something completely different:

It HAS to be someone from the outside. Intriguing names...

I have to think that Darrin Simmons was a courtesy interview... I know the ticket sales are irritating Mikey. Darrin Simmons would probably be a worse move (as far as fan impact) than bringing Marv back. Internally I wouldn't be surprised to see them hire Lazor. I can see the Hobs propoganda machine pimping his redzone percentage and 'young mind.'

But, outside candidates are what will sell tickets, so they HAVE to consider it. Surprised to see McDaniels on their list... I think he would be great with the Bengals, but can't imagine him finding this a better situation than the one he turned down in Indy.

Zac Taylor was the offensive coordinator for the Bearcats in 2016.... He's basically a less qualified Bill Lazor on a much better team. Waldron is probably even less qualified than that. Everyone looking for the next Sean McVay.

Word is he got cold feet when he wasn’t sure about Luck’s health long term. I think he might be waiting for the New England gig once Bill hangs it up...but the biggest selling piece is in his early 40’s so...

The one thing McDaniels would have here is job security.... And after his previous effort in Denver, he needs to succeed at his next stop. A few bad years and he might go back to being a coordinator forever. In Cincinnati, ownership would be patient. And with some luck he could get the current roster in the playoffs, which would buy him as much time as he wants.

Josh McDaniels is a quitter and already failed as a Head Coach. He already fits the bill perfectly. Print him out a contract post-haste.

I know nothing about Taylor or Waldron but I like the idea of poaching someone from the Rams staff. They've built an elite offense around a dynamic RB and a system pocket QB. Maybe Dalton and Mixon can be a poor man's Goff and Gurley. McVay coached under Jay Gruden so the veteran players might even have some level of familiarity with the scheme.

McDaniels is interesting but I'd be surprised if he actually wants the job.

Why's he a quitter? Because he changed his mind about a position he never held?

As for the failed job... He was 33 and still young in this league. He wasn't even given 2 full seasons and never really had a qb.

He's a snake. As a man all you have is your word, and if you don't have that you're looking at Josh McDaniels.

A coach with no spine / backbone that runs if the situation isn't up to par to hide his little penis. That's exactly what we need.

Didn't even mention he's a cheater to-boot. I'm good.

I suppose you have issues with Nick Saban for the same reasons? He's a pretty awful coach.

Now we're comparing a coach with a prestiges pedigree to him?

Lol come on now. We can do better, should strive to do better, and hopefully we do.

I'm not comparing records... Saban went against his word as a younger coach. Refused to admit he was flirting with Alabama as he was the Miami head coach. By your words, this makes him an unqualified coach.

And stop fooling yourself.... McDaniels is likely too good for us. He'll have multiple options.... And this is the Bengals.

Belichick had an almost identical resume to McDaniels in 2000. SB coordinator, 1 failed stint as head coach. He then took the job as the Jets coach for a day, backed out of the deal and left for the Pats (a team within the division). He then went on to have the best coaching run in NFL history. If McDaniels wins this will be water under the bridge.
There were rumors before the draft that the Pats were willing to trade into the top 10 for Mayfield so I think that's where McDaniels ends up if the Browns are interested in him

Florio is pushing this as an interview for DC when they name Hue Jackson HC.

Joseph guided the Broncos to their first back-to-back losing seasons since 71-72. That's quite an accomplishment.

I would love to see Zimmer fired in Minnesota, have him come home to be our HC, make Hue the offensive coordinator and Vance Joseph the DC.

However, after reality sets in, I would be good with a Vic Fangio interview, or an Eric Bieniemy interview.

I just hope we don't lose Frank Pollack as our offensive line coach.

Hell, I would be okay with Frank Pollack as our HC out of all our internal candidates. I like how he gets after guys, makes them accountable and is a no nonsense type of guy.

Reports today suggest McDaniels has turned down our offer of an interview. The Bengals are also expected to interview Todd Monken the offensive coordinator of Tampa. Monken's offense put up some big numbers with Fitzy as the qb. He fits the profile of a guy that might not have enough of a reputation to command all the control that top candidates might want.

I am not worried about a HC that knows how to be a great coordinator. I want a HC who can manage personnel, evaluate talent, and be an effective strategist during game day while commanding respect from his players so they rally behind him and want to succeed so he succeeds.

My hope is, he can find a really good OC and DC that are dedicated to their job so he doesn't have to worry about those phases of the game.

A HC shouldn't have to be a great coordinator, he should be a great gamer, who has a keen eye for talent and can get the most out of that talent while being a respected field general. Basically a CEO with a talent for game management.

Hopefully, if he picks the right coordinators, those coordinators are talented enough to customize a playbook that utilizes the strength of his unit, not forcing his unit to conform to his style of play making their particular skill set obsolete.
