Hilary Duff sightings at the Consol Energy Center, though...

Good point dash... and now at least i have someone to dislike more than Alex Goligoski.

I am trying to see the positives here...

More details on the signing (500 k by the way)

With Jordan Staal set to miss at least part of training camp with a foot injury, the Pittsburgh Penguins have found a replacement as they have signed veteran centre Mike Comrie to a one-year contract worth $500,000.

Comrie's agent Ritch Winter told TSN that his client agreed to sign for substantially less than the $1.25 million he earned last season with the Edmonton Oilers because he believed it would help the team. Winter also said that Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has already contacted Comrie to welcome him to the team.

It has been a whirlwind summer for the 29-year old Comrie who tied the knot with Hollywood star Hillary Duff in August.

In 43 games with the Oilers last season, the Edmonton native had 13 goals and eight assists. In 568 career games split between the Oilers, Coyotes, Flyers, Senators and Islanders, Comrie has 167 goals and 192 assists.

Comrie was originally selected in the third round, 91st overall by the Oilers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

I like it. He's versatile and cheap. For 500k, he has some decent skills. Hes been playing on some shit teams as of the last few years, though.

The front office really liked the idea of having a prospect compete and play for the Penguins this year. With this signing, they have enough NHLers where a prospect is no longer needed. I wonder if this spells the end for Talbot? Free up that roster spot for healthy competition. I could see that happening and then signing a more reliable #6/7 defenseman, to also boslter the competition on the blueline.

Either that or Staal's setback is more serious than in being reported.

Those are the only two reasons I can think of for this signing.

I love it for 500k. Is is true that he took less than Shero offered or is that just fans bullshitting? I've seen it numerous places, but haven't seen a source. Either way, he's a pretty versatile player and an upgrade over everyone on wing not named Kunitz. We don't need the all star wingers that people are always clamoring for, just someone who can put up around 50 points. Comrie is capable of doing so, but we will see how the season shakes out.

Wow. I wasn't too keen on Comrie, but the price makes it a steal. Shero!

Its a good signing. Unfortunatley, it is a bad signing.

do you mean this in the context of where your allegiance lies?? otherwise i'm confused by this statement...

i'm pretty pumped about this signing. if anything it breeds competition. while many of the pens 'insiders' and 'experts' saw tangradi making the squad, it seems like management does NOT want to rush him (smart move because he's the future winger on the top 2, NOT the bottom 2). for 500k, that's an awesome deal. I know he's a center, but with the promise of Staal moving up and Geno to the wing, that opens up a C spot (and talbot is a very servicable winger) or the prospect of moving Comrie to the wing. Either way, awesome deal.

well, in reading a bit more on the deal...apparently the Pens wanted to bring him in on a tryout for camp, however, Comrie's willingness to play for the league minimum got him a one-way deal at 500k. He was supposedly told that he'll start camp on the top 2 lines at wing though...so he has to prove his worth up there. If he clicks (and if you're quick enough for Sid or Geno, you SHOULD click), could be the steal of the offseason. I just want some where around 50 points and I'll be happy. In looking at the current roster...this is probably the best we've had in a long time. It's better than the '09 roster, and probably just barely better than the '08 (just because of the much more solid D). Well...maybe Hossa makes that team too good. I dunno. Either way, this just solidifies my need for them to DROP THE STINKING PUCK ALREADY!
