Here's an interesting bit of info on McGehee's baserunning ability from Bill James:
•Brewers third baseman Casey McGehee was the third-worst base runner in the majors last season, behind Paul Konerko of the White Sox and Jorge Posada of the Yankees. He was on first base 32 times when a Brewers batter singled, but he advanced to third just three times (9.3%). He was better getting from second to home on a single, 9 of 19 (47.3%). Just once in eight times (12.5%) did he score from first on a double. In 2010, Prince Fielder had the lowest percentage of any regular in the majors in going from first to third on a single, 3 for 64 (4.6%). But last season he was 8 for 40 (20%). According to James, an average base runner in ’10 advanced from first to third on a single 28% of the time. A very good base runner did it 38% of the time.
IMO even if he is a "base-clogger" in the tradition of Jason Thompson, he'll still be an improvement over last year's version of Alvarez.
