-------The history is important because it is what built the facilities and the stadium that we have........and the fanbase that we have.
But if you tell a recruit that we won National Championships back in the 70's and the 90's they're just gonna be like, "ummm okay...."
No the history is also important in knowing the types of coaches we need to be successful at Nebraska. Beyond TO and his accomplishments, we had at one time THE conditioning coach/program/facilities that were the envy of college football. We still have some of the best facilities, but coach & program---not so much. THAT'S part of our history and what it shows us NOW what we lack.
I do NOT DOUBT anyone's loyalty to the programthat posts here. I do feel that some here have gotten complacent in buying into the "we've got a coach that won 9 games a year." To me that mindset is just reverse psychology. Most of the powerhouse programs seldom respected us....shitty weather a state in the middle of nowhere with little population and less to do in your free time. No one could ever figure out the appeal (winning anyone). And todays TV sportscasters are 10 times as bad. With the possible exception of the B1G announcers, the rest don't like us because they've never figured out why college football succeeded at Nebraska. So, they support keeping Pelini and his 9 wins a year because they don't have to try and figure what the appeal is to Lincoln.
I do not believe for one lousy minute that any of the pro-Pelini broadcasters have the programs best interests when they come out supporting Bo.
