I did this for CBS, broke down each commitment as it came in and then listed the commit list after. Thought I'd bring that over here as well.

Jason Hall is a little known talent but he has the size (6'2" 195) and the hit power. See limited film by clicking HERE.

That brings in two safeties in this class, though both could play other positions. I like getting in on Hall early but hope we can somehow pull in Rockwell. We need CBs more than Safeties right now and we have two safeties and no CBs.

2013 Commits

1. Luke Gifford [Lincoln, NE] (3-Star ATH)
2. Jason Hall [Grand Prairie, TX] (NYR)

Hall just got rated on 247Sports tonight... a 3-star... 83... one point above Gifford. Definitely a bit of a gamble, but hoping he takes off his senior year. I think he ends somewhere around 86-90 if he has a good to great senior year.

I hate talking about HS 40 times, but when they're low like that you wonder. (4.74)

Beck and Joseph apparently saw him in person together? They liked what they saw and offered. Nothing wrong with that.

That's fine though. Bo's first two recruiting classes were chock full of 4.3-4.4 DB's and almost none of them amounted to anything. Can't put much stock into it.

That 40 time was taken electronically after his sophomore year... safe to say he's probably faster than that now. As a safety it would be nice to get a 4.4 guy but not essential. he could be 4.5-4.6 and still be legit.

Yeah I l know but that better than4.7 to me he's probably a 4.5 kid which is excellent and fine.

Also most kids don't know the science of running the 40. Go look up the WR and rb that ran super fast 40 times in the combine some of those keys were not that fast in games. But learning the science and practicing it and all of side. Swopes from tamu looks faster than barner or denard.

It's true... if you know how to run the 40 right you can shave a tenth or two off your time. A lot of times it's not necessarily indicitave of how football fast a kid is, but it is a decent gauge. Eric Crouch is a good example, he ran 4.5 out of high school but on the football field he was just too fast in that first 20 yards for most teams to catch up to him. 20 yard splits are more important on offense IMO because you rarely run straight line 40 yards on the football field.

I think 40 yard dash and bench press are pointless drills in the combine. Or they should atleast make em wear pads and full gear to get a legit 40 yard dash. But like you said nobody really runs In a straight line. I remember Peter warrick back in the day was the most electrifying player back in 98 his 40 time was like 4.6 or maybe higher and everyone freaked out.

The bench press is important for guys in the trenches, or guys who'll make that initial 5yd contact.

I agree with your 40 statement for most players. I'd rather know your burst.

I can understand that for the big uglies in the trenches but for everyone eh not a big deal or a need bc even some of those big guys weren't putting up as much as you thought they could.

What about the first 5 yds from LOS contact for a rcvr or coverman? As a rcvr you want to get off your man and too your route. As the cover you want to throw him off his route timing.

This Nebraska team lacks burst since Dobson's been in charge. It was the most important thing under Boyd Epley.

The first couple seconds of a play.

These guys are lethargic.

Bench press ain't gonna help or improve that. Technique, practice, and film room. Plus most team don't play bump or tight coverage anymore and when we did we got flagged alot.

Bench press ain't gonna be the key factor overall strength and technique will do it.

Because pushing someone away from your body is nothing like a bench-press. Lifting them over your head in clean and jerk motion, or curling them is.

5 yard splits for linemen (especially DL is huge) bench press is big, but actually hang clean a squats are much more important for the line than Bench Press. Bench press is HUGE for OL and DL, not as much for the skill positions. Explosiveness is the big thing in all positions. 10 yard splits for QB, RB, WR are huge... pro agility is the biggest test for secondary and linebackers.

Yes for OL N DL no for skill positions. I need explosion fundamental technique and overall strength

That why skill player you never see people ask how much he can bench it's how fast is he can he play man or is he zone coverage or can he play slot or is he possession WR. If a cb can bench 300 10-12 times but can't play good techniques in zone or man coverage what is he gonna be doing... Sitting on a bench no pun intended .
