As of this moment, we have Roullier and Gates that can play center. Gates is more capable of playing guard than Roullier, so it we need it, Roullier at canter and Gates at guard. Roullier is injury prone…Gates is not, he had a significant injury so there is a huge difference.

We have decent option along the interior now and there is still the draft.

Commanders will not pursue QB Lamar Jackson.

Speaking Monday, Commanders General Manager Martin Mayhew clearly stated the team will not pursue quarterback Lamar Jackson. He ended his response to questions surrounding the enigmatic quarterback saying, "For us right now, we're moving forward with Sam (Howell) and Jacoby (Brissett).” It seems every quarterback-needy team is going to be asked the same question after Jackson publicly announced that he had requested a trade early Monday morning.

Offensive line:

Rivera feels "very comfortable" with the offensive line. Went out and made a concerted effort to add depth to the group. They signed Andrew Wylie and Nick Gates earlier this month

Were taking the Rivera presser live on @1067theFan - tune in - talking O Line now, will be a long session. Rivera says expect left guard to be a real competition between Saadhiq Charles and Chris Paul. Of Andrew Norwell, "he's going to be there"
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) March 28, 2023

RR's pressor interesting that LG battle of Charles, Paul, and Norwell? Yikes. He said he is very comfortable with the oline. Posters on here will not like that. lol.

Of course he says that. On paper, the OL is improved. All it really means is we don’t have to panic.

I agree but some posters on here want oline early and often in the draft. If Roullier is 100% it just makes the line alot better.

Yes some on here do. Then others like you think we should simply draft based on highest need.

What the front office did is make all positions an option in the draft so we can draft the best players available…or best value for this team. If the best value at 16 is C, then we should draft a center and cut Roullier.

No, it's BPA at a position of need is how I would draft. So, Roullier being healthy has nothing to do with draft strategy? Plus, we brought in Gates who plays center.

So what are our needs? You don’t see center as a need at all? Roullier is under contract for one more season. Nope…Roullier’s health does not affect the draft. Gates can play guard. If center is the best value at 16, you take a center.

Well there is no center in this draft to warrant the #16 pick in my opinion. Our needs in any order are CB, TE, LG, LT, and LB. So if one of these five has the highest grade on them when we pick at #16 then that should be the pick. I put these five positions over center. How isnt Roullier's health not affect the draft? When healthy he is a good center.

What Rivera says and what he believes could be 2 different things.

For example, he and Mayhew said they want to be a 2:1 run-to-pass ratio team at the end of the year presser. I don't think he really meant that.

Another example is when he was asked point blank about what separated WSH and the other teams in the NFL East. He blurted out "Quarterback"...meaning Wentz. Was he being truthful? I think he was at that time.

Does Rivera believe he is comfortable with the current OLine? I think he is actually and I will tell you why.

Offenses are NOT Rivera's calling card. This is the same coach who literally believed that Carson Wentz, a gutted OLine, and Scott Turner were a recipe for a successful NFL offense in 2022. How did that turn out? Several posters here knew it wasn't going to work prior to Week 1.

He has misjudged and made bad decisions about the offense since he has been here. Is he content with the offense? I believe so...however, I cannot be sure and I am only speculating.

We still have the draft and Rivera could be doing "coach speak" but here is what it appears to be at this time. Call it the offense of the "unknown".

Unknown: How will EB perform as a 1st time playing calling OC?
Unknown: Who will be our starting QB in 2023?
Unknown: How will Howell perform IF he is the starter?
Unknown: How will Cosmi make the transition to Guard?
Unknown: How will Gates and Roullier's health hold up?

To me, this is not effective as there are way too many unknowns at this time. Again, I believe Rivera is making a mistake just like he has the last 3 years. Time will tell.

valid points but any team with a new offensive coordinator and new QB are going to have a lot of unknowns. Lets see how this draft goes. I just think alot of posters on here will fill out if its not oline at #16.

Rivera has sent mixed signals regarding Howell, to the point where i have to entertain the thought they will attempt to move up, like Stymie has proposed.
However, with a new owner at the doorsteps, i get it

I agree there is no center worth the pick at 16 but in the second there could be value.

I throw center as an equal to those positions in terms of need, meaning we have options, but could use an actual good player. As a matter of fact, all positions should be considered except DT. Even DE should be considered if the right player is available.

Roullier’s health status doesn’t matter because he is a 30 year old center who has missed the last nine games of 2021 and the 15 games of 2022. Even if healthy, he is not reliable. That is why Gates was brought here and he is an option at guard. Roullier is one of the better center in the league but you simply can’t rely on him, and he effectively in the last year of his contract because I don’t see him playing here in 2024 at 14 million. Having the luxury of cutting Roullier would also free up 4 million in cap space and why wait until you are desperate for a position to upgrade it?

Honestly, RR and Mayhew should be fired just for making the statement they want a 2:1 ratio.

It literally made no sense.
I don't even think other teams thought it was true either.

Not sure the purpose it served?

Right Gates was brought in here to play Center if Roullier couldn't go or be a good backup if Roullier gets hurt again. Yes Gates can play LG if we dont upgrade at the position in the draft. I dont see center as a need right now and dont think that its a need right now like the other 5 positions that I mentioned.

All positions should not be considered. I don't see DT, DE, S, and WR being drafted in the first 3 to 4 rounds. We need a returner I will give you that.

i am the poster and if , "if " was a 5th we all would be drunk . has the o/line improved ? yes from diarrhea, to hard shit . i am drafting o/line early and often . now will i gat upset with a cb ? no if they cant trade down and value is there . will i be upset if they go TE in round 2 ? no not if value is there . . but if i am GM i am looking hard at the top 3 pure centers

You seem to get wrapped around the axle going down a one say street. Gates was not brought here just to be the backup plan to Roullier. He came to be a part of the OL and he has the capability of being a guard. Center is more of a need than LT and arguably guard. Leno is not as bad as you and others seem to think and center is more important than guard.

DT should be the only position off the board. S is second most secure position on the team; however, an upgrade is possible. DE is a position we may need to improve. Sweat and Chase are both coming up in the next two seasons. I doubt we keep both. WR is a dark horse option. Outside of TM, we aren’t proven. I am not saying 16 would be wise but you never know.
