From the province and city? Knock yourselves out!

Federal cash? No chance in hell.

While there would need to be some renovations to the Olympic Oval and likely a brand new ski jump and possibly bobsleigh/luge track, the costs should be significantly less than having to build brand new facilities. You can keep the Saddledome around for figure skating or ice hockey and have the new arena in place as a second hockey facility. Short track could be held at the existing Winsport arena.

According to wiki, the provincial and federal governments chipped in 2.3 billion for the Vancouver Games.

Cost of the Olympic Games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yep. Because Vancouver couldn't have used that for more transit or affordable housing, amirite? Traffic is constantly moving and housing costs aren't anywhere near astronomical.

Public money for stadiums for millionaire owners is already one of the dumbest things cities keep doing, and although hosting and funding the Olympics is even dumber given the costs are higher tenfold people still think it's a good idea. Boston spent $15 billion, given mostly to organized crime and shitty contractors, on a leaky tunnel and even they thought the Olympics was too big a swindle to consider.

So he cries poor regarding funding the arena, then a week later says an Olympic bid is being considered?

Launching a bid for Toronto: Keenan | Toronto Star

But he continued talking, about the things Olympic advocates said a bid would bring to the city: investment in transit and social housing and infrastructure. Tory was abandoning a bid, but he turned his speech to emphasize he was not planning to abandon the development and construction that might have come with it. “We need to build a stronger, fairer city, not for an international audience, but for the people who live here.”

What a novel concept.

I think he's just saying what people want to hear - That said, I like Nenshi, but he likely will be long gone even if Calgary is successful with another Olympics Games bid.

I'll just drop this here (CIS football game between the visiting University of Alberta Golden Bears and the Calgary Dinos at McMahon last night):

Dinos thrash the Golden Bears 80-18 - Three different players have 100+ yards rushing and Calgary comes 25 yards shy of 1000 yards of total offense in the game.

Dinos would probably beat the lions tonight too

TJ Brodie out 3-to-6 weeks with a broken bone in his hand (5th metacarpal bone, better known as the pinky).

Well, that answers the question of who plays with Gio for the time being.

Nice little extra rest period for Brodie. Betting he's roaring to get back at it by the time he returns.

Yeah, if it's going to happen, this is the best time (worst case sounds like he may miss only 5 regular season games, I can live with that).
