It's been a while, but Teatro was a good place. I also liked Da Guido (north of 16th Avenue on Centre Street). And if you want to pull an Oilers and stiff the place, La Caille on the Bow is the place to go.

Edit: Looks like Da Guido has closed its doors, so scratch it off the list.

It's a funny photo, but I don't get what they mean about the spirit of the sports scene in Calgary - To recap:

Stamps are defending Grey Cup champs and look to be in contention again this season
Roughnecks just won the NLL championship
Cavalry FC is having a great inaugural season in the CPL
Flames fell flat in the playoffs, but had a great regular season last year

Sure, Calgary needs a fieldhouse and a new football stadium (maybe one that could host both CFL and soccer games), but things are looking pretty positive at the moment.
