Domi isn’t going to get going next to Laughton. That’s another waste of money and a lineup spot.

Compare this to Florida or TB’s forwards and I’m really not understanding how the Leafs are supposed to get out of the division.

So the Leafs got to the point where they successfully negotiated a contract with Rantanen, had a trade worked out, Carolina reneged on the slim chance they may meet the Leafs in the ECF and then traded him to Dallas because they won’t meet until a round later.

Then Marner’s ratfucking agent and his dipshit father start the machine and spread that they are willing to leave the Leafs because they aren’t offering them $14 mil (almost $2 mil more than the Leafs offered Rantanen).

Can’t blame this one on Tre I guess - tried to do right by the club by getting a great plan B for Mitch and had everything worked out until the Canes reneged. Would’ve been a great pickup.

If Marner wants to stay a Leaf and win there like he said after the Rantanen trade negotiations broke the contract is already done. There isn’t anything left to negotiate here.

There’s just no reason for the team to go beyond that number. He can’t get an 8th year anywhere else, he can’t get his family and his wife’s family down the street anywhere else without uprooting them. He can’t get the marketing money and lifetime Leaf Alumni status anywhere else.

And the fact he’s got this offer before the playoffs and his next chance to absolutely disappear after the regular season is incredible in itself and something I personally wouldn’t offer him since that’s all that matters at this point.

So yeah, sign, don’t sign, don’t care. Lots the team can do with cap space and having Matthews/Nylander/Knies to build around for the next little while.

Leafs haven’t been home almost at all for over a month, 4Nations etc. I get it’s been busy.

But if Matthews isn’t hurt he’s playing like shit compared to what he’s making and if he is hurt they need to get him on IR (and should’ve LTIR’d him).

This is twice in three seasons now he’s played good but not superstar-level good. That’s not enough.
