I hope the Marner injury isn't too serious, that kid is having a heck of a season.

Hah, they tricked us!

http://SportsHoopla.com/gwyt2jk

"They quietly placed Nathan Horton, Joffrey Lupul and Stephane Robidas on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) earlier this season — giving themselves the flexibility to operate more than $15-million above the $73-million cap for the remainder of the year."

Goes on to state that it would be in their best interests for cap overage reasons to actually add some salary. This regime continues to amaze me.

I just realized who Marner reminds me of, RNH in his rookie season. Little, still not fully developed water bugs with great vision and crazy feet. Even now right down to the shoulder injury.

I have more faith in the Leafs to not fuck up an outstanding young player than I did in the Oilers. That's really more of a statement about the Oilers though.

Welcome!

They might, they might. But if I had to wager on it, I would take the other side of that bet. BOS and FLA are waking up, and they are too young and inconsistent.

Now if Babs would see the wisdom in starting Curtis (McE, not Cujo), you might be right.

Nazem Kadri gets NHL second star of the week behind Laine and ahead of McDavid. 2 goals and 6 assists in 4 games this week, now has 24 goals and 46 points in 58 games this season.

/Still wouldn't trade a first round pick for him though.

lol at McJesus getting 3rd start of the week - Geez, this league is just falling over backwards to give accolades to him. Love this part:

He capped the week by scoring his 20th goal of 2016-17 in a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Feb. 18.

Yup, it was a spectacular empty netter. Give it to Talbot, he's the real MVP of that team.

Talbot's been slightly above average IMO, not really a team MVP. The Oilers allow the 10th-fewest SOG's and are middle of the pack in shot attempts against.

I haven't watched much hockey beyond the Leafs this season (had plenty of time to the last few years with the Leafs being a barn fire) but whatever they have that team doing to limit Talbot's workload, it's working. I think a big part of that is the fact shot attempts against them plummets when McDavid is on the ice and he's playing over 21 minutes these days.

OK I retract all of my earlier comments in the Rielly v. Gardiner discussion.

Damn, he and Zaitsev are having a tough go of it lately.

At some point (after the season) I have to believe that DJ Smith's continued employment will be in question.

Thought Goat had a good game again last night. I have generally liked him as a 4th line centre and cannot see what Ben Smith brings that sends Goat back to the Marlies.

/plus I just like the nickname "Goat"
