Could Dubas have gone into Pittsburgh and done any worse? Is there anything Burke and Hextall could’ve done that would be worse than what he’s done?

This is like Chia going to Edmonton levels bad.

Ehhh he was handed a heeping pile of shit. There are plenty of items that could have been done better but would be curious to know what could have been done with really zero tradable assets?

Essentially wasn't allowed to deal Malkin, Letang and dealing Crosby would be insane. So the majority of their large cap hit is old.

The Karlsson deal got rid of a LOT of the mess Hextall did and then the Jarry signing was really a victim of circumstance.
As long as you have Crosby/Malkin and Letang on the roster the expectation is to try and win and the Jarry deal at that time was the only capable goalie they could have signed. A trade? Nope because once again he had no tradeable assets.

The Guentzel deal was once again put in a bad place, teams knew they Penguins couldn't resign him and no team was going to give up the farm for a month rental. The assets he got were pretty good for the circumstances.

When your core is old, mediocre and you aren't allowed to change that core, no one could do a good job.

Those things did all make the team worse though, even if the consensus is he kinda had to do it although he absolutely coasted through 4 years of goaltending with the Leafs without signing anybody to anything close to the contract Jarry got and he probably could’ve been more creative in getting rid of Petry and Granlund without having to do all the other stuff.

I suppose the alternate is, given his reputation of boy genius that made Fenway pounce on him the second he was available and given that other teams held him in like regard, he tells ownership that the era is finished and the only path forward is cleaning house. He obviously figured that he could take the job and keep the window open and when realizing that’s no longer the case just…kept everyone and kept going while re-signing Sid? I dunno I guess I’m just not seeing the plan here.

I maintain that this is all Hockey God retribution for gushing over Fuck Jeff Carter at his retirement.

And now that I have spoken *for* the hockey Gods, the Jackets will now add another to the LTIR list and penalize the Canucks Cap limit, as is tradition.

Unfortunately the plan is essentially polishing the turd until Crosby/Malkin and Letang retire.

Dubas crap hockey op president no polish turd Malkin give crap coach no player Sid gets lamppost to piss on crap goalie Jarry should have keep DeSmith
What is sad, Malkin is finally playing good and Crosby hasn’t been that good. And then your centerpiece winger for Guentzel is now a 4th line player.

DeShits is the biggest tease of a hockey goalie there ever was. No way he sustains this for more than a month.

Granted he fell into the perfect situation backing up Oetttinger who rarely misses games and has a very good team in front of him.

:L

If these are your line combo's then you are pushing for the 1st over all pick.

Evgeni Malkin-Sidney Crosby-Rickard Rakell
Anthony Beauvillier-Kevin Hayes-Jesse Puljujarvi
Drew O’Connor-Lars Eller-Noel Acciari
Michael Bunting-Cody Glass-Valtteri Puustinen
Wait, Rust is hurting. Shocking...

Garbage team. Sully has to go.

Doing my research on Roger McQueen and James Hagens lol
Who am I kidding the Penguins will somehow be two points out of a playoff spot near the trade deadline and trade every draft pick away and have no chance of getting a decent player.
