Lou Angotti did such a fine job behind the bench that the team was rewarded with Mario Lemieux. Worthy of a statue out front PPG Arena in my opinion.

Pierre Creamer did not know they needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive the one season that he coached. He told the players on the bench to play for the tie against the capitals in overtime. Mario went out and won the game in OT.

And he was only hired because he was French-Canadian and spoke French. What a dark time that was

Ubriacho came in and thought, well I can’t be any worse.

He won over a lot of people by stating “trying to teach Mario to backcheck is like trying to teach a shark table manners”

/didn’t he also go back to the dressing room in a tunnel under the stands so he didn’t have to walk across the ice and get booed?

That's a pretty funny line, in all honesty. It sounds like this was the highlight of his tenure with the Pens.

What didn’t make the Penguins documentary, Part 2: In 1988, the Penguins needed to win their second-to-last game to keep their playoff hopes alive. They were tied 6-6 at Washington. Pierre Creamer, in mercifully his only season as coach, believed a tie would suffice: “Tie is good, no?” Mario Lemieux frantically corrected him, then hit the ice and netted the overtime winner. The Penguins missed the postseason anyway.

What didn’t make the Penguins documentary, Part 4: Gene Ubriaco, who coached 106 games in 1988 and 1989, grew weary of catcalls from Civic Arena fans when he went on the ice to walk to the bench. So Ubriaco had a tunnel cleared under the stands and would magically emerge on the bench -- on his hands and knees, at first sight.

This should have been included.

Obligatory when Gene Ubriacos name is mentioned

That is correct he did anything to avoid the fans.
