I mean, he's probably a 7.5 - 8 million per season player on the UFA market, I can't see the Oilers matching that number while trying to patch up the remaining holes in their lineup. He's done his time in Edmonton, why take a discount?

I worry about term. I would take him in that range but for no longer than 5 years. I expect when he hits the cliff, it will be dramatic.

5 years for him and Laine both to go with 4 more of Bjorkstrand would make me squishy inside.

Probably a very good deal for it's first four years. Possibly a very bad one for the last 2-3.

Don't think the Oilers are worried about losing a depth player. Not exactly their strength. They probably could get by with protecting half what is currently allowed.

I don't think forward (or D or goalie) protection slots are at a premium in Edmonton. LOL.

When you are protecting Kassian you have room to spare.

Seriously outside of McDavid, Draisaitl and RNH is there really a forward, if they lost would they even know? Not like any others play meaningful minutes anyway.
