Neal scored 25 goals in his final season with Vegas and yet they barely lifted a muscle to bring him back which should have been red flags that this guy is no good. Treliving likely sold him on the plan to play him on the top line with Gaudreau and Monahan so Neal arrived at camp out of shape and got outplayed by Lindholm and then he sulked the entire year. The final blow was that lazy backcheck in the OT playoff game against Colorado. Sure, he pumped up his numbers on the PP with the Oilers, but make no mistake, he is done like dinner.

A part of me is always going to be convinced the Leafs should’ve traded Rielly once they got Barrie, re-signed Barrie and found another LD somewhere else. Him having no PP time here (+ Babcock) killed him. Happy he’s doing well in Edmonton.

This post should have noted that despite Barrie's good play he's still atrocious defensively and since the rest of the Oilers' D is likewise atrocious defensively they are bad at defence overall and allow the 5th most shots per game.
