In case you're forgotten how many Stanley Cups the Oilers have won, they've put it on a patch as part of their jerseys for next season - Nobody lives in the past like the Edmonton Oilers and their fans.

Dude..... This fucking city still celebrates 94...... and we god damn lost that

The five cups are not that bad, but to have the retired numbers underneath them is a bit much.

I just think the Oilers take it to the extreme with celebrating the past (whether it be Cup wins, honoring teams of the past, and bringing back players for special nights). It just reinforces the inferiority complex that is pervasive with that city.

As the Darnell Nurse saga rolls on, I wonder if paying a backup goalie from the KHL $2.5 million is looking to be a poor decision and the Oilers would have been better off giving a bit of that to Nurse. An extra million or so would certainly come in handy right about now.

/Nurse won't be happy making less than Kris Russell

They're going to have to make a dumb move to get him in (or trade him, which would also be dumb) and I can't wait to see it. There's no way he settles for less than Hanifin.

I know, I know, offer sheets are like unicorns, but why not force the Oilers to pay Nurse 4.059 million or give up a 2nd round pick to land him?

Offer Sheet (AAV) Compensation $1,339,575 or below None
Over $1,339,575 to $2,029,59 3rd
Over $2,029,59 to $4,059,322 2nd
Over $4,059,322 to $6,088,980 1st, 3rd
Over $6,088,980 to $8,118,641 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Over $8,118,641 to $10,148,302 (2) 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Over $10,148,302 (4) 1st

I heard Dreger saying that the Oilers were looking to pay Nurse around 3 million on a bridge contract, I can't see him agreeing to that low of a number.

cOilers have less than $4m cap space, with Reider still to sign (one of the $750k players can go down)
someone really aught to take a run at him.

I just don't see the Oilers not matching at the 2nd rounder peak and pissing off a GM (and probably a few others because they're all babies) probably doesn't seem worth it.

Also the problem that a few teams that could definitely use an LD like Nurse (Buffalo, NYI) don't have their own 2nd.

But there are definitely teams (Philly, Dallas, Chicago) who have the space, the pick and the need who should probably have a go at it.

yeah, they would match for sure, but it would force their hand elsewhere, which is never a bad thing.

Something I forgot until reading the link above is that Sekera can be LTIR'ed so the Oilers really don't have any cap issues when it comes to signing Nurse (or matching any offer sheets).

Of course, the fact they lost their best d-man for the season means Nurse has a bit more leverage in that regard.
