I had seen earlier that there weren't any players who wanted to opt out of any games.

Guessing that the deal the league and union cut was that no matter what happens if any games are missed by players after they've "recovered" that they won't be getting any game cheques. ie: You can sit out without penalty but we won't pay you for games not played as a result.
