I wonder how much Arizona dicking around with OEL caused some analysis paralysis for Jim.

I'm not upset with losing Markstrom or Tanev, as those prices and terms were something they we should not have offered.
Would have preferred not Calgary, but that's OK

Tell me Troy from Richmond wouldn't have signed the same deal to stay here basically forever.
We couldn't have afforded Toffoli at $4.25M?

After a massive step forward, and a huge marketing win with the playoff run - They have already given up on this year
Sutter, Pearson, Beartschi and the ghost of Spooner come off the books for $12 mill+ next summer. (and Edler for $6M more)
seems they are just going to patchwork until then. We'll end up circling around with Connaughton or Hutton or someone like that

If they had shown an inkling of competency in free agency up until now, that would give me some comfort.
At that point Pettersson and Hughes are getting paid, so all that cash is spoken for anyway.

the window was one season. We needed to make hay while the rookie contracts were in place.
could have been an extra year if we kept a bit of the core. but now its closed

all that optimism from last season

Markstrom and tanev gone still hurts though. The contracts they signed are over pay over term but i liken them to the edler contract. Still contributors. And heart and soul guys. And they couldnt be signed because of the trash contracts to non contributors jimbo has given out and have accumulated over the years.

Stecher and toffoli going are just an example of Jimbos pure stupidity

yeah, agree. If you are going to overpay people, it's the heart of the team like "Dad" Tanev, not the $12million 4th line
Not sure if there was a way around choosing between Marky and Demko - I haven't looked into the expansion rules enough yet.

It's just the continuation of deals that don't makes sense.
- 6 years for Ericksson when Sedin's had 2 years left
- quality assets for 17 games of Toffoli with no plan in place to re-sign
- signing three or 4 multi year 4th liners to $$$ deals
- whatever the fuck they were trying to do with OEL.
- getting zero asset for expiring UFAs time and time again
- hell, even signing Tortorelli to 5x5 when NO ONE else would touch him

It's hard to be happy or optimistic now.

I understand that Marky and Tanev had to go. I get that...

We have 7.53 million in Cap space...

Why not out offer 4.45 to Toffoli. HE'S WORTH IT
Why not offer 2 million to Stecher. HE'S WORTH IT

Why not outbid Toronto for Brodie?
Why not try harder on Barrie?
Why not talk to Vegas and try to solve their cap issues?

WE HAVE THE ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now look at who is left and we are talking to...

Sami Vatanen: A guy who can't stay healthy
Travis Hamonic: Grit and toughness but we already have that in Myers
Erik Gustafson: Who??

I think we are worried about Hughes and Petterssons contracts. DON'T BE. WORRY ABOUT THAT AFTER THE EXPANSION DRAFT.

There are very few times I say this regarding my Favorite sports teams but I'm beyond pissed off with the direction of the team.

We had a chance for a good run this year and now what?????
