I think drafting a smarter, better player is a fantastic idea but I've never heard of this Ehlers. And quite frankly it sounds made up.

Far be it from me to come to the defense of Jim Benning, but Virtanen was higher rated than Ehlers at the time and there was a lot of pressure for the Canucks to bring in a Western Canadian kid. It's gotta be tough when you see how good this Ehlers kid is playing these days, though.

yah its all hindsight but I remember there was so much talk locally that they shouldnt fall into the "draft the local kid" mindset and alot of people wanted the skill of Ehlers or Nylander
