I get your point....... but
you just named two teams that werent far removed from 0-16 seasons.
Colts had fairly well rounded team when he took the reins. A little bit different.

Troy Aikman had a 1-15 season his 1st year. Thought I would help you out :becky:
Colts were in a decent situation as a team when they drafted Richardson.

And he’s .500 for his career so far as a starter.

well even the Pats were smart enough to wait half a season before going to Maye. I doubt maye was ready on week 1.

A lot of advantages of having a rookies sit for a bit, instead of throwing them in the fire to crash & burn.
Mahomes sat a year. That looks great now.
Good call on Maye. Forgot about him.

The Colts had no other option. The offense looks more crisp under Flacco than with Richardson. We are also in a league where coaches are fired left & right. Its possible Shane Steichen and the other coaches feel the pressure to win now to protect their own jobs. Maybe that comes across as being selfish, I don't know. I don't think it is. Go with Flacco the rest of the season. He's 39 and is on a 1 year deal. Maybe he decides to play next year, if so, bring him back and see where Richardson is.

AR would benefit from going to a team like the Ravens that have a history of working with QB's like him. Josh Johnson is Jackson's current backup and he is not much really, although he has had a nice career as a backup.

Let AR learn behind Jackson and if he gets hurt and misses a few games.....the Ravens have a QB that can step into their offense and possibly succeed.

I think you're onto something there.

I don't follow The Colts that closely but one of my brothers does and he doesn't agree with the decision of benching AR5. He believes "When they drafted AR, they knew he would probably be terrible for a season or two. It was a calculated risk based on the options available to the team -- keep trying to find guys no one else wanted like Carson Wentz and Jacoby Brissette and hope we hit a Jared Goff... or use the #4 overall pick to take the best guy available to us, which was AR or Will Levis.

Benching him now, if it's for good, just shows that this team isn't building itself methodically, it's just making random decisions based on what's happening week to week. If they didn't want to go through the growing pains and the losing, why did you draft this guy? He's exactly what he's shown he was in college. They drafted him knowing it would take one full season at the absolute minimum just to make him a serviceable NFL QB, much less an elite player.

Giving up on the longterm plan just 10 games into it shows they don't know what they're doing and that we shouldn't have any faith that they do going forward. This is the sort of thing bad teams do.

But why am I surprised, the Colts wasted Luck's entire career, got the same number of Super Bowl appearances with Peyton as the Broncos did in less than half the time Indy had him, and have been in QB purgatory since 2019. Let's keep the train roling."

Another one of the reasons he's against the move is the Josh Allen experiment which he wrote "after 2-3 years of playing and development, Josh Allen went from a mediocre QB to one of the best in the NFL. They figured they can train a guy with unique physical tools to play QB, but they couldn't give unique physical tools to someone who already had QB skills." Judging by these stat similarities he showed JA struggled as much as AR at this stage of his career?

Another factor he believes AR5 is not as bad as his numbers indicate is this article he read:
"It’s also worth noting that all but one of Richardson’s starts this season have come against top-10 pass defenses, while Flacco’s two starts came against the Jaguars and Titans."

"And of the 78 quarterbacks who’ve been drafted in the first round since 2000, Richardson ranks 41st in EPA per dropback through 10 starts, per TruMedia. Some of the notable names behind him: Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jared Goff."

"The guy just doesn’t take sacks on early downs. He’s the only quarterback who hasn’t taken a sack on first down this season. In fact, he hasn’t taken a sack on any dropback that TruMedia charts as a “run down,” which includes any first down and second-and-less-than-7."

"Indianapolis has been a league-average offense overall and one of the best rushing attacks on first and second down—but only when Richardson has been on the field. When Flacco is out there, Indy’s early-down offense has been among the worst in the league."

"...while inaccuracy has certainly contributed to his issues, Richardson has had the highest rate in the league of passes falling incomplete due to receiver error (which includes drops, receivers falling down on routes, and miscommunications with the QB), passes where he was hit as he threw the ball, and passes that were accurate but defensed at the catch point."

And going by Flacco's numbers from his first game as the official starter Indy's offense doesn't appear that much better?

Keep in mind I'm not an Indy fan and I'm going by what my brother, who is one, thinks and he watches all their games.

Not really IMO. If he goes to the Ravens, he's immediately a clip board holder for his duration with the team. A top of the 1st round pick is awfully pricey for a caddy. He's guaranteed to not get his 5th year option and will never get his big pay day with the Ravens, barring catastrophe with Lamar.

You have to factor in the opponents for Flacco as well. Minnesota is 7th in ppg allowed, a solid defense including #2 in rushing yards allowed, which largely contained the Colts best offensive player in Taylor. He's had 4 games, 3 of which were against strong defenses (Minny, Pitt and Tenn). He lit up the other team (Jax) and only had 1 TO going into this weekend's game (adding an INT and fumble on Sunday). It was still only a 1 possession loss.

All that said, I disagree with benching Richardson. I don't think the Colts are good enough to get anywhere this season with either QB, so why further stunt ARich's development?

He's a high pick on a rookie salary. How is it pricey? He makes just under 8 mill this season, 9.3 mill in '25 and just under 11 mill in '26.

For an example Darnold signed a 1 year deal for 10 mill to back up JJ McCarthy. He is only starting because McCarthy got hurt....another example is Gardner Minshew who signed a 2 year 25 mill deal (just 15 mill is guaranteed). Both guys are getting basically backup money. Might be high end backup money, but with what QB's make......it's backup QB money.

AR would be traded there to learn in a system that he could thrive in.....like Jackson has.....and yes he would be a backup.....but if or when Jackson misses a few games he could step in and showcase what he has learned.

And when you consider Josh Johnson is their backup and he's almost 40.....would give them a younger backup who could have some upside.
