Anthony 'Tired' Richardson can rest up on the bench.

I hope this is a memo to all young QB's in college. If you can stay and develop do it. The NFL will not give you the time to develop hardly ever. Colts drafted Richardson knowing he would need time and have now already benched the young kid even after a decent game. I get that he said he couldn't keep going because he was tired and that was a terrible decision to make that public, but this is what you get when you get a young player. They need time to learn all facets of the game including how to speak to the media.

Good move by the Colts, they should’ve done it before now. Richardson isn’t capable of being an NFL QB right now - I didn’t think he was very good in college with the Gators and thought it was absurd how the Colts took him at #4, he’s never proven anything.

He said it himself, he’s a running quarterback, maybe only Lamar is better. He’s great, or something.

somebody should find that draft thread.

NFL QB?
4th overall?

I got nothing.
:suds:
Richardson packs elite arm strength and athleticism into a big/physical frame for the position, but he is incredibly raw on tape. He has urgency and explosiveness in his setup, and the ball jumps out of his hand from his three-quarters arm slot. His arm strength is special; he doesn't even need to engage his lower body to make power throws deep down the field. On the flip side, his decision making and accuracy are a roller-coaster ride. He yanks his arm at times, leading to some ugly misfires. He forces too many balls into crowded areas, too. He is electric as a runner, using his burst, agility and power to rack up runs of 60-to-80 yards. In summary, Richardson needs polish, but his upside exceeds everyone in the draft class. He's a low-floor/high-ceiling prospect.

he is a great prospect for many positions, not NFL QB, and I understand he can throw it in the next county.

I'm looking at my first thoughts: I dont think you're getting a starting QB from Anthony Richardson until 2025 unless you're running the Ravens system. Could end up being the best player in the draft but at this point he is a prospect. Love his ability to extend plays but should be a bottom 1st rounder. Atlanta, however, could be a perfect fit for him as they run the ball a ton and have basketball players playing WR. Ridder also seems like a safe 'bridge' QB and not a franchise guy.

I'm with cdumler7 on this one. AR might be the last raw prospect top 10 pick at QB. Seems like its win/win for a QB to stay in college until he is ready to leave.

I don't really follow the motivation for Indy - Your best bet for this year is maybe a 6 or 7 seed, but the schedule is pretty tough on the back end. Flacco is a great story in how he is motivating and leading teams at his age, but he does nothing for your future. So, now you walk into next season wondering whether Richardson should still get a chance to develop or if you should blow it up. But you're probably a little further back in teh draft order from some of the stability from Flacco. I realize teams play it one year at at time, but I just don't know that I would be all that excited about the plan if I were a Colts fan.

The Colts just cannot continue to start Richardson this year - he’s pathetic - he’s completing only 44% of his passes, that’s horrid. You cannot play a QB that terrible when you have a chance at a winning season and a playoff bid. End of story.

I get in the past why QB's would come out early. The fear of injury was a huge motivator for a lot of players to come out earlier than they should have, but now with NIL deals you can still make great money while getting the training needed.

I think most teams are looking at Josh Allen though when it comes to a tools prospect at the QB position. When he was drafted he was nowhere near ready for the NFL. I was at the Senior Bowl practices that year. You didn't dare stand behind the end zone when they were doing red zone drills because he might miss a receiver by 10 yards and nail a reporter. I think he hit 2 reporters before we all realized we should maybe move.

The problem is Allen developed the mental side of the game to a level no one thought possible. He worked his tail off at the position throughout those first couple of years and then emerged as a legit top-10 QB. Too often though those incredibly gifted physical wise QB's just don't have the mind for the game needed at the NFL level.

They took 6 QB’s in the first 12 picks this last year.

Drafting QB’s who don’t deserve to be drafted that high isn’t going to stop. Because all you have to do is be right once and you are a legend. For every Anthony Richardson and Trey Lance there is a Josh Allen.

This last year was a bit different though. You are talking about QB's with 30+ starts at the collegiate level. Teams had a pretty good idea what they were getting. And it should be no surprise then that these guys are having pretty darn good success early in their careers. Richardson with only a handful of starts to his name and not many of those being elite level games is a very different picture than guys with 4 years of starting experience at different teams.

I think you could argue Drake Maye was a project but he wasn't getting much support in college

Drake Maye put up stellar numbers in college and started for 2 whole seasons. Richardson started for one season and put up mediocre numbers and the Gators went 6-6.

Chris Simms and Kurt Warner both called Maye a project. Mayes supporting cast stunk, though, and I agree he was a better prospect than Richardson

Been saying since day 1 his college numbers scared the shit out of me

His innacuracy was very obvious in college.

Chris Simms is a known idiot, he’s spewed a lot of dumb shit over the years about various players and has been wrong many times. I don’t care what he says, one of the worst commentators out there. Maye does not have quite as much experience as the other QBs drafted high this year but he still started for 2 years and put up strong numbers and led UNC to winning seasons. Richardson wasn’t even good in college, he had horrid accuracy and didn’t even put up big numbers in his one year leading the Gators to a 500 record.

Yep. In my opinion Richardson is the most unproven player to ever be drafted in the top 5 and has some of the weakest college numbers of any high draft pick ever.
