the era of the entire history of the Big 12? ok

Well, I guess I didn't cover like 3 or 4 years for Oklahoma and like 2 for Texas. John Blake and John Mackovic both sucked equally so it's a wash for the rest of the era? :noidea:

I think we should go back to 200 man teams.
It was way better.

Part of the price you pay for a playoff especially if only 3% of your teams make said playoff.

The biggest problem college football has is impatient fans and boosters in the social media era.

Hell, LSU fans were on the verge of firing Coach O rolling into this very year. He was 25-10 and never finished worse than 3rd in the toughest division in all of college football for shit's sake. And now he is the toast of the town.

Shit, even after year 2 of the Frost era in Nebraska, there are asshats (very few mind you) calling for the Fire Frost brigade. He doesn't even have an upper classmen on his roster that he actually recruited till this year, but supposedly 9 wins are easy in a rebuild.

That only leads to successful teams and programs to have an even bigger leg up on the competition.

We already have a 64 team playoff. How many chances do you need to beat Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, or Penn State?

It is a simple 2 step process:

1. Win your division.
2. Win your conference

If not? Shut the fuck up, coach or play better next year or get better players.

Unless youre OSU or Bama. Then you dont need to win either.

CFB isnt different than any other college sport. The too teams always get better recruits. If only 12 teams made the NCAA basketball tourney wed have 9 or 10 of the same 12 every year. Same with baseball and everything else. The reason those other sports have different winners is they dont just take 3% of their teams. This "rich getting richer" is simply a self fullfilling dynamic a 4 team playoff gives us

Been that way for a while. You already know the 6 or so teams that have a legitimate chance at the playoffs at the beginning of the season EVERY SEASON.

PS: fuck Bama and their inbred fans and their November junior college game.

You are a complete moron if you think college football isn't an incredibly and dynamically different sport than college basketball when it comes to being competitive.

2 dudes can win you a title in college basketball. A single dude can carry you a couple rounds in the NCAA tournament in a 5 man game if not more.

1 or 2 dudes aren't winning you 10 to 12 games in college football in a major conference. You need 5 to 8 studs and 15 or so dudes that can play at a really high level.

I realize math is really hard in Iowa.

Wisconsin's OOC schedule this year was Central Michigan, South Florida, and Kent State.

At least Bama played Duke from a P5 conference.

I am fine with Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, and Oklahoma being there every year. If you can recruit and coach, develop the talent, you deserve to be rewarded.

If other teams can figure out how to recruit and coach them up and scheme to win, then they will get there.

Big 12 isn't much better with Texas down. Oklahoma keeps racking up meaningless conference championships.

I admit cfb seems a little weird with usc, texas, nebraska being down from where they used to be. michigan has come back a little but still only mediocre. could name a few more. miami............ FSU...........

But those same 9 or 10 win the tournament just about every year, don't they? Since 1985 No. 1 seeds have won 14 championships, No. 2 seeds have won four, No. 3 seeds have won three, and No. 4 seeds have won one. That accounts for 22 of the 24 national championships since the field was expanded to 64 teams. (NCAA Tournament Seed Trends and Overall Records)

We love to say how amazing the NCAA tournament is for basketball, but the bottom line is that the top seeds win 92% of the time...especially if you are a #1, #2, or #3 seed.

they might get there once before USC but not consistently. Oregon has always been good when USC was not. Relying on another team to suck is not a good longterm plan for success.
That's not true. During USC's heyday in the mid-2000s, Oregon was ranked for 3 or 4 years, and was even top 10 in a couple.

USC needs a wholesale dismantling IMO. They struggled to get to 8-4 in a down conference this year. They're nothing like they were under Pete Carroll, and to be honest they were mediocre for the previous 20-25 years before him. Oregon is heading in the right direction while USC is stuck in the mud.

Yeah but basketball is on a whole different level, easier to make a playoff with higher amount of teams bc of the game of basketball, also easier for an upset. More difficult to do a big playoff for football, also going to be harder for a team to upset. That's why I don't like comparing the two, same goes for baseball like basketball.

We already have a 64 team playoff. How many chances do you need to beat Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, or Penn State?

It is a simple 4 step process:

1. Win your division without dropping a game to a cross division team in the desert.
2. Win your conference
3. Don't drop an opening season game to another P5 at a neutral site. Schedule cupcakes OOC.
4. Make sure teams from other conferences don't win their division/conference in better style.

If not? Shut the fuck up, coach or play better next year or get better players.

:fify:...Oregon style.

Not if those four you listed above ALSO keep recruiting, coaching them up and scheming to win. Need those to fall off ala Texas, USC, Michigan, Florida State, etal. Keep all those type down at the same time and we might have a Utah, Va Tech, Auburn, Stanford type CFP. Nobody wants to see that do they?

FTR, I'm also fine with this year's field. The CFP committee got it right again this year.. They always do.

You hit the nail on the head. CFB doesn't want to risk a big upset in the playoffs. Minor ones like a #3 beating #2 or #4 beating #1 are okay. Leave the bigger upsets for the regular season.
