I know, but it's worth mentioning. Cowherd is saying this and yet in the past five years ESPN has lost EPL, La Liga (on Deportes), the Champions League and now the World Cup. If soccer is going to surpass hockey, it sure seems like his own network doesn't give a flying fuck about it.
just with the changing demo's, its a given that MLS will continue to grow ... just look at the quadrupling MLS franchise expansion fees in the past couple years ... people want in as owners ... Id say in 10 to 15 years it might be on par with the NHL in terms of industry revenue ... might require a future USMNT world cup victory for anything more than that
This whole "liberal" connection to soccer is fucking ridiculous. Anyone who believes that nonsense can go shove Ann Coulter up their ass.

The argument against cilantro is not necessarily racist. It does, however, employ racial thinking.

a "Miracle on grass" if you will.
Agreed. Except for that Calgary part. Charlotte first please!
ESPN may not have the rights for much of soccer anymore, but they aren't the only game in town like they used to be. Fox Sports has the World Cup and will want to use that to boost that channel, NBCSN has the Premier League I think and the Spanish language channels carry some games from Latin American leagues. I don't think that soccer will pass hockey in popularity but it won't be for lack of tv exposure.
Just wait until all the teams they're putting in Florida and Georgia fail and they'll be in these two cities in no time!
ESPN is still the undisputed king, and I think the way to get soccer into the mainstream is exposure to the world's best, and right now and for the foreseeable future the world's best will be playing in England, Spain and Italy. Hoping to attract converts by flooding them with MLS is a recipe for failure, as the play in MLS is still akin to that of England's 4th division, and that isn't going to change with the mass expansion MLS has undergone/still is undergoing in the past decade.

You're entirely right about the liberal nonsense though.
Soccer is the most popular sport in a huge majority of countries. Sure it's the most popular sport in some very liberal countries like Germany and the Netherlands, but it's also the most popular sport in some very conservative countries like Iran and the majority of Africa.

sounds like the MLS is more like the NHL then you think
Yeah, I typically think of all those soccer moms in their SUVs as liberal.Like basketball, soccer can be played by many with a single $10 ball. It's a poor man's sport. The poor typically lean left. Therefore, there is a connection.
thats incredibly dumb
