So, this just happened to me:
Coming back in from lunch as someone I know is leaving for his. We stand off to the side of the elevator lobby for a minute, maybe two talking about something. The entire time, I see the elevator is there, sitting on the first floor, waiting. We finish up and I push the button to go up. Doors open.

There's a dude standing in there looking at his phone.
