The speaker shitshow is funny and I get that they're trying to get rid of McCarthy for mostly shitty reasons but this was what people like AOC and Tlaib etc. promised when they were re-elected in 2020 and yet only two Democrats didn't vote for Pelosi, none of whom were from the far-left wing of the party.

Isn't this kind of what's supposed to happen? Congress is known for party dissent and individual representatives having independent streaks that don't respond to the whip. It's one thing I think generally is done better in US federal politics compared to Canada where what the leader says goes. I'd rather see what each elected official actually represents rather than what the party does, especially when the party is often so far removed from its voters' actual wants and needs.

Yes, BUT... they don't have an agenda, a policy, or an alternative they want instead. If they felt McCarthy was not qualified and they had a candidate they were putting forth as an alternative that makes sense. But they haven't claimed that and they don't have an alternate candidate. They have just picked different random people that are not even interested in the position. They haven't asked for some sort of policy to be a priority outside of being able to easily oust the speaker which was already given.

They are doing this for their own fame, power, and money. This is attention seeking and since they come from noncompetitive districts with very uneducated electorates, they suffer no risk.

I would agree with you if the end goal here were some kind of policy for their constituents, but it's chaos for their own benefit. And it's a symptom of a sick democracy that needs reform. We haven't passed a constitutional amendment in more than 50 years and too many of the representatives in our government literally have no understanding of even the basic purpose of representative democracy. It's scary.

"Hey Eloco? When was the last time we went that long without a constitutional amendment?" It was the fucking civil war.

It also demonstrates a significant flaw (I've lost how many we're up to now) in our shitty two-party system.

The rules of the House literally stop the body from functioning without a Speaker, but unlike most healthy democracies (or democracy-adjacent, I know we're not technically a full democracy) which have multiple parties that can lead to reasonable negotiations to form a coalition government, we're left with this shit show where idiots are refusing to negotiate for the greater good, but instead are voting only for their own self interest m

Pedo Gaetz supposedly offered to support McCarthy in exchange for a specific committee chairmanship. If they were in it for real progress - even if it's their fucked up backwards excuse for progress - they'd be outlining real priorities other than instead of just shouting platitudes and "HUNTERS LAPTOP" instead of negotiating for personal benefits.

SAT Question
Andrew Tate said he had 33 cars, but authorities seized only 11. If Andrew Tate claims his dick is 9" long, how long is it really?

A) human trafficking, apparently
B) he certainly seems like a guy who would rent one to instagram it out

do I pre-emptively win?

They're definitely headless chickens. I'm just always in favour of more disagreement which I think leads to more options which, like sabres says, might one day lead to a system that isn't bound by two parties.

At this point I've lost count in how many times I've thought the GOP would splinter. It never seems to happen even though clearly a new small minority keep coming through, fucking the establishment up and wind up becoming the party majority.

They legit have no ideas otherwise. No conservative anywhere does right now. That is their backwards excuse for progress. They just ran two election cycles playing the culture wars card, they lost both, and they look dead set on sticking with it despite it meaning less and less to most Americans.
