My mom is fairly devout. Pre covid she went to mass every sunday and sometimes mid week. I saw her sunday and its all she wanted to talk about. So disappointed and so angry. She was telling me that even the news coverage in italy has been scathing towards the pope/vatican.

In person masses are back at her church (50 person limit) but she is not going back until the pope/church issues a formal apology and does something to help the families of the victims or in general the native groups that have been affected. I told her she might never be going to church again.

I don't know what scared me most when I was a kid, Catholic families or Born Again Christian families in my circle of friends

They have legal reasons to not be so forthcoming with their remorse is my guess but I did see Toronto’s Cardinal (one of two Canadian Cardinals) did apologize yesterday.

The Catholic Church is beyond redeeming anyway. It needs to be junked and the faith started from scratch. Just a putrid organization from the bottom up.
