This one definitely deserves a John Oliver “holy shit!!” Hundreds of laws WERE broken and people died. For anyone who still doesn’t think white privilege is a thing, Ron Johnson makes it pretty clear that yeah, it’s totally and very obviously a thing.

I read this article about the guy who murdered his grandfather yesterday in Florida and cut off his ears. #FamilyTime

As I read, I couldn't help but notice the white privilege throughout. The guy wasn't told to get on the ground when they arrived (or shot for that matter) at the scene of a violent crime when he was covered in blood, he waited outside while they investigated, they found suspicious items on him but didn't check them more closely, and he wasn't shot/killed when he punched, kicked, head butted, and tried to steal the weapons of the officers.

After receiving a call of a reported stabbing on Saturday evening, sheriff’s deputies arrived at Parker’s DeLand, Fla., home at around 6:40 p.m. to find him standing on the porch with bloodstained hands and arms next to his grandfather’s maimed body. Police asked Parker to wait outside while they confirmed his grandfather was dead. They found Wells with several stab wounds and his ears cut off, police said. Parker, meanwhile, told officers that after getting into an argument, Wells “came at him” with a knife. He claimed he was able to wrestle it away from his grandfather and proceeded to stab him in the “heart.” When a sheriff’s deputy asked Parker if he had any weapons, he said, “Yes,” police wrote in the arrest report. But after doing a pat-down, police couldn’t find any weapons, “only an unknown object in each pocket.” “This object was soft to the touch while being firm,” police wrote, but they didn’t remove them. The officer then asked Parker if he knew the whereabouts of his uncle, Ronal Wells Jr.“Yes,” he said, sticking his hands in his front pockets. “This is where he is,” he added, pulling out the ears. (The ears belonged to Parker’s grandfather and not his uncle. Ronal Wells Jr. was not harmed in the incident). Parker then tried to steal an officer’s gun and Taser, police said, and kicked and head-butted three officers as they attempted to restrain him and place him under arrest. Police tried to use a Taser on him, but it wasn’t effective, according to the arrest report.​

took advantage of our inner 10 for outside gatherings. We had friends over (3 people) from our original 6 bubble. While we were really happy that we could physically see them, all of us felt awkward and out of sorts. I believe that the lack of continuous contact was the cause, it was a little alarming seeing how hard it was to just be in the same area after so long of not doing that type of interaction.

I've met with many friends outside, by the lake 6+ feet apart, drink coolers centrally located 10' away throughout this Pandemic. It's been no big deal. Also walk dogs with a few people too.

I struggle to understand how others haven't been able to do this..

I've seen neighbor kids kick soccer balls keeping distant, shooting hoops where you gather your own rebound while playing horse. Few throw footballs. Chalk art contests with families...

This 50 year old man has 61 previous convictions. He’s a lost cause, he’s committing incredibly violent crimes, it’s unfortunate but the man belongs in prison. The maximum sentence for aggravated assault is 14 years and this fits all the criteria for requesting the maximum.

The crown asked for 5 years. The judge was so appalled he made it 7. What do you think this guy is going to do when he gets out in 7 years?
