I simply cannot keep track of every fucking crackpot with a podcast. The Internet has taken the jackass with a "The End Is Near" sign on a street corner screaming at walls and given them an amplifier that gives them the ability to scream at walls on every street corner. And the ability to find every other one like them.

The Internet was a mistake.
You know, I would not be surprised if future historians look back and think the same thing. We were given such a tool and so many people misuse it or use it for silly things. We should be ashamed.

Anyway, anyone want to read my Snap, Crackle, and Pop fan fiction?

I mean, the good news is that the science appears to be suggesting that COVID is moving from being labelled as pandemic to endemic which will ultimately lead to loosening of mandates. I'm hopeful that we are only three to six months away from a point where we can do away with restrictions on gatherings (both outdoor and indoor) and life can return to some semblance of normalcy. People continuing to do the right thing which includes wearing masks in public indoor spaces and getting vaccinated/boosted will get us there eventually.

The blockades in Ottawa/Coutts/Ambassador Bridge are not helping matters, though.

I'm trying to see what science changed here because from what I can tell there's still a shortage of ICU beds and a fuck ton of overworked healthcare workers tied directly to Covid and to think this is the final wave or that the next one won't also overwhelm the system is naive.

All I'm seeing is politicians reading poll numbers and changing tact by going on TV saying "the science has changed". What's changed is public opinion.

Yeah, letting the "done with COVID" crowd take control of the situation for political gain.

But what I think is happening the folks who are taking precautions those numbers and severity are dropping but the folks who haven't done anything those numbers are staying constant hence why the severe case load hasn't dropped. Like you this is all conjecture and would need to go over the data to understand more.

The bad thing about Omicron is how contagious it is, but that also means that more people are also hopefully surviving it who contract it and gaining natural immunity. That said, you are right BBB about the toll this has taken on healthcare workers and that is something that can not be highlighted enough. Also, this virus continues to mutate and who knows if the next mutation will be worse than Omicron. The only thread of hope I cling to is that if people continue to get vaccinated/boosted along with people building up national immunity, hopefully we can reach the stage where COVID is still affecting people, but not to the stage where they need hospitalization.

I get where Neil is coming from but if all people quit jobs strictly on principle what company is left?

Hell I wouldn't work for me out of principle of knowing how big of an asshole I am.
Corporations do bad things but this is one that has given a platform to a disphit who has then himself platformed hate groups on his podcast :L

And the right then chooses to denounce neil instead of the dipshit at the centre of it all :L

With all the leaked internal emails to staff from the spotify ceo that show how bad morale is there, i dont think neil young is going to influence people quitting anyways :noidea:

The right was going to denounce Neil no matter what we all know that.

That last part is the point. All corporations do bad stuff and stuff just as nefarious look at the environmental disasters oil companies have done. Never once has this type of comment caused a mass exodus.
